A visit to WMR HQ shall change your views on 7mm modelling and of S7 for ever.... just stick to cans of coke, they cannot be got at!

And be on the lookout for a severed finger. Pete misplaced his a couple of years ago and we think the mice are hoarding it.

Either just outside the shop, or there is a car park just the other side of the primary school on the main road..

Hope to get there Mick..

Catch you Sunday Mick.

Mick , check out the line of rivets on the rear top edge of the body (right at the end) on the Stanier 3500G tenders there's quite an appreciable gap from the edge down to the line of rivets whereas the 4000g ones have the rivets just below it. Having said that there were so many tender swaps 'Jutland' may well have had the larger tender at some stage.

John, ok I've gone through all my images and lists etc, your right, Jutland was fitted with the Stanier short wheelbase 3500gal tender for most of its time, however I do have a list of other Crewe engines with combustion chambers that might suit your needs depending on what date you want to model, I've opted for 1961 for my fictional diorama....which begs the question why I need to be so blessed obsessive with loco allocations, by virtue of being fictional I could choose any I want so long as it ran on the Western Division, but I wont LOL, I'll stick with genuine Crewe area based locos.

For Crewe area I've included locos that might work through there or be from local sheds, eg Edge Hill, Longsight, Stockport (later in 63 I think) but two Crewe locos are fairly consistent in that era and carry riveted 4000gal tenders, these being 45737 'Atlas', 45689 'Ajax', 45676 'Codrington' and 45674 'Duncan'. However, speaking to my father (Crewe spotter 55-58) he says pretty much anything could turn up from Camden or Carlisle, sometimes Leeds locos but rarely Derby or MML locos so that expands things somewhat. One also has to remember the works and lots of locos from odd areas would pass thorough Crewe to and from the works, eg Garrets! Why they were not done at Derby is any ones guess.

I'm not sure if your after a specific loco or any loco to fit a specific date/ location but if you need more info then just post away and I'll try and help.

I've opted for 1961 mainly for the variety of stock, I might push to early/mid 62 (but will have to recheck my Jubilees for 5A for that period) at the outside edge as after summer 62 the Princesses were retired, in that period around Crewe you had most of the LMR steamers still in existence, plus AL1-5 and the original diesels were also present, 10001, 10203 (1A...sigh) etc, early 62 saw DP2 allocated to Crewe as were a lot of class 40 in 61 and class 44 as well (D3, D8, D10) though I have no images as yet of 45s on the Western Division though I'm sure some must have worked through Crewe in that period.
I'm currently trying to find the earliest date for small yellow warning panels, DP2 was fitted from new in May 62 and some 40s I've proof of in June July 62 and AM4 045 at Wilmslow in 62. However I have one photo of a class 40 (no number given) in Crewe works in 61 but the date might be wrong.
Sadly the AL1-5 did not receive small yellow panels until late 65 early 66, probably at their first major shopping, which is a shame as I think that's their best paint job they ever wore, but hey I might let that slide and have at least one with small yellows panels and not look at the calender LOL.
Finally at Crewe between 60&64 were Warships and Westerns, after 64 they went over to Brush type 4s and class 33 I believe.

Anyway, enough conjugation, time to break out the hot stick and do some graft on the Jubilee tender.

Addendum, having re-read the above I'm struck by something I said today at Sudbury S7 meet, I'd said I admired those that could model a specific location at a specific time and their dedication to that aspect, and, that I could never do that as my interests were so varied, yet written above I have clearly boxed myself into a Cheshire/Lancashire area late 61 to early 62!

Splot.... sound of foot extracting from ones mouth LOL, funny how things go around, an interesting lesson well learnt LOL.

Perhaps it stems from the S7 thing......the wish for authenticity?

Me, I'd LOVE to model the INSIDE of a NE roundhouse, based loosely on York or Neville Hill, but with only those locos likely to have been there.

Al in 7mm, mind, but I've not decided on S7 yet.

And the width is going to be difficult too......1500mm minimum......

Possibly, the focus does make life easier but then one does have to watch out for the other anoraks sneaking out of the cupboard and mugging you when your not paying attention, Chris Tarrent in Australia on Weds night is going to be one anorak I'm going to have to dodge if I want to remain focused LOL, especially if it features QR or NSW coalies!

I'm with you on York and it is one of the possible scenarios I'd like to do, the overall roof over turntables is very appealing, but York and I think Gateshead had tracks that ran along one wall and then swung into the adjoining Turntable, seems to be a ER theme. York also hosted a lot of LMR locos in the later years but mostly outside I believe, theres been a run in BRILL that I've just been reading about. Holbeck would be nice, nice mix of locos there from LMR to ER and diesels, I also like Camden and it could work in 7mm with some compression.

Back to the Jubilee, already spotted some potential issues with the tender after reading the recipe....sorry instructions! There seems to be a couple of very obvious stretchers missing between the axles at the lower edge of the D shaped cutouts, one of the Wild Swan LMS locos in detail, Black 5 I think, has a nice section on LMS 4000 gal tenders so will need to trawl through that and see what I need to add, also fairly sure there are some ribs inside the coal space where the sides roll over at cant rail height...only on the side without the fire iron tunnel mind, but could fill the tender with coal and not worry about those if need be.

Mick,

It's something I've noticed with all of David Andrews kits is that the tender underframes are very sparsely detailed and many have inaccuracies. He does comment that he doesn't put in all the parts you can't see and I have to say he has a point if you look at all locos from the front 3/4 angle.

Me? Well, I dig out the GAs and start having fun... :D
