Any one for Kettering - 2nd March?

The Layouts, only three there and forgot to take photos of one of them thought I had but appears I am remiss, apologies.

As Colin said, good examples of what can be fitted into a small space. Despite all the track they don't look too cluttered which was an eye opener...to me at least, Phil was frothing over the depots and mentally measuring up sizes for his proposed early 70's Kings X Passenger Loco, mind so was I for my early 80's (possibly) MSW based idea of Wath or Tinsley servicing. The goods yard was appealing, again not a massive size but lots going on and to look at, not sure how that idea would work for a 70-80's era layout but it could be an idea to work on, a coal yard or steel yard, maybe even the butt end of a dock yard, Liverpool or Tilbury or graving dock, Falmouth, Liverpool etc.



Pretty good representation of a class 15, do like these, no self respecting East London or East Anglia 60's layout should be with out one! No idea who makes the kit, could be scratch built.















Sorry for some blurries and grain, despite quite high lighting levels at Kettering I had to push the ASA a bit, no awards but a record of some of what was there.

I had a great day at Kettering; I seemed to spend most of the time talking. Nice to see all the WT members out in force. My main spend was on a couple of lorries from Goods Yard Models, the rest was on scenic accessories for Heyside, some given to other members of the group to finish off before I left the show

Roger was seen walking out with a large box, but I didn't see him before I went to find out what it was!

Fabulous to meet some WT'rs in person! Good to be part of such a friendly community.

I found the small layouts captivating and they ably demonstrated that it is possible to create plenty of operational interest in a tiny space!

Bumped into lots of people I haven't seen for ages too and I didn't blow too much money. (I did buy a couple of Model Express kits. ...On opening the boxes for a quick glance... They certainly look like a bit of a challenge! )

I really enjoyed the day.

Even if I'd decided to go to Kettering, I would have had to cancel, due to being extremely ill with a very nasty cold virus. I could have done without getting up at 05:20 this morning to nappy and feed the baby to be honest, but my wife's dead on her feet at the moment, as she had the virus before me, but had to look after the children whilst I was at work last week!

I made my first impulse purchase within seconds of getting in the hall as I snapped up Peter Tatlow's second volume on cranes for just £28.

Then I pretty much stuck to my list;

HMRS locomotive transfers
Slaters conflat A
ABC bogie motor for my Grampus Shunter
Big Fibre glass stick for cleaning up my comedy soldering
1/32 wire to replace the wire I'd robbed from my Parkside kits.
Premier screw couplings
Flashing tail lamp kit
And some BR lamps.

Didn't get any sound chips or speakers that I was after. So roll on Telford

I also did my best to spend Mickoo's money for him, but he was strong and let pass a bargin DJH 37 kit complete with bogies, and motors for a song..

Great day had by me too .........good to catch up with all the old faces & some of the new ones

For once I bought what I intended to buy from Skytrex (our little group had already pre ordered some bulk purchases)

The biggest bargain I saw was a very nicely built BFYE JLTRT Class 46 Peak at £575 (the parts alone would cost you that!)

After resisting Phils urges to spend within a few moments of walking in LOL and yes that 37 was a steal and if I'd not picked up a MMP 56 and 58 mid week from one of our brethren I'd've grabbed it!

Also picked up Tatlows new book, no idea why as I've no plans for a crane (as yet) but am a sucker for a good set of drawings. Further books were D for Diesels #1 (recommended for all 60's diesels fans as are #2 & 3) and Merry Go Round, expensive but very concise and excellent stock drawings too.

I bought two Model Express kits - A Conflat "A" for an 03 match truck, and a wagon labelled "CSV freight stock"(??). It has nice resin moulded canvas sides which I think I can use to create a PVA or PVB "Campbells Soups" wagon. http://paulbartlett.zenfolio.com/brtecampbellsvan/h1045d837#h1045d837

Threads will come in time, but I must keep going with my layout baseboards for now, so you might have a bit of a wait. For now they have to join my "unbuilt kit mountain". If I pause the comedy carpentry for too long there's a good chance I'll never get motivated to restart

I also finally got around to buying an aditional set of driving wheels for my Right Price 03 kit which has sat stalled on my bench for probably more than a year. These wheels will be chopped to become the jack shaft, (correct diameter and centred/quartered), so that I can finally achieve a decent rolling chassis! It was driving me mad! ..And hopefully, that should motivate me to finish the kit.

For what it's worth, I got a set of Lowmac wheels (don't get excited - they're for a US model), a set of Plunger pickups (also for a US model), three figures from Omen (for Withyn Reach) and a pot of Railmatch Acrylic BR Blue paint (for my HJ 31 which has just reminded me that I forgot to look for BR Yellow as well

Taken on my "ancient" Nokia E90 Brick. Not bad if I say so myself, except for the last one - I think I was bumped by a rucksack at the critical moment...
