SHMBO and myself had a good day as well. Great to meet some more members, and re-meet others .

Infomation I picked up, HMRS transfers are on there way back as they have found a supply of paper. They are working on the printing at the moment.

Just crawled in from a long day. Just about wagged my chin off today, which meant that I missed you all at the test track. Did manage a passing 'hello!' to Richard while flogging my 22 kit to a happy new owner. I also became a new owner of a few kits. Juicy!

After wheeling and dealing I had to speed up to Coventry to sort out my tenants, who haven't paid rent for SIX BLEEDIN' MONTHS! Agents are slime.

Hope you all had fun and bought some nice goodies which hopefully will appear here soon!

I had a nice day out I bought a 52 (ta mate) 2 IAG ferry wagons from model express(ok I felt guilty about 2 years ago when I killed his BG) I am still trying to find a picture of the variant 9 ribs 8 panels each end but there is time. Loads of other goodies including Mk2 seats, fab

A Weaver O Scale 50ft Tank car body (no wheels, trucks or couplings) for £3.00 In yer face boys!!!

... and gave a short run on Withyn Reach to my Atlas Alco RS3, a recent eBay Bargain at £112 + P&P





...so not an entirely wasted day...

Nice , Result then. £3.00 is a very good bargain and £112 for an O gauge RTR loco.... mmmm very envious. Why British stuff cant be made cheaper

I was also extremely tempted by Easybuilds new Swindon Observation saloon, but with a queue of unfinished projects gradually shrinking I managed to resist.......very nice though

Eileen's. Twenty-five of your English pounds. They had some more expensive ones, but these Mauns are chunkier. The jaws have about 30mm of useful length.

I went for the tapered nose version from Eileen's at Reading last. Another £5 but a super tool. I recall baulking at the price but succumbed in the end. When I got back home I discovered I could have saved a bit of money buying online, but one has to appreciate the convenience of being able to buy at a show and also look at the goods before you buy - if we always went for the cheapest supplier many of these specialists would pack up and we'd ultimately be the losers.

Here's an interesting 'bonus' feature of these Maun pliers:
Also ideal for manipulating wire which can be fed down the throat of the plier and held firmly over the full length of the jaws.

A great day and super to meet so many of you. Thanks for your kind welcomes and I promise more prototype photos as soon as I can get an afternoon to myself. I will also dust my camera off and start taking some pics of my builds - honest! But don't expect works of art!

I had a good day, the highlight for me was to purchase a Finney 47XX kit (as in 2-8-0, not Brush Type 4) on the Bring and Buy at a saving of about £70. Dunno why I keep doing it - I must be up to nearly two dozen unmade loco kits without the countless wagons and a good few coaches too. The there was the "Book of the Royal Scots" and "The Book of the Lord Nelsons" together with a dozen of the earlest MRJs including issue 0 for £15. I found my 2 x 2 mm brass ready for my Sentinel build, and the plastic rod for insulation (more on that later) at Hobby Holidays - as ever a most helpful visit to this trader.

I saw the 61XX 2-6-2T at Lee Marsh too and was very impressed. And don't forget, I'm not primarily a GW fan. The loco is absolutely immaculate as are all Lee's models, but at under £2K it's something of a bargain.

All in all a most enjoyable few hours.

On the plus side, being with my lad, a time served welder/plater presently at university at Loughborough, I found out that the carbon rods used on an RSU are also sold as carbon-arc-air gouging rods and can be had cheap for a box of FIFTY!!!

Already sent for a box.

Sorry to learn that you had such a trial getting back and forth. I drove in both directions via the M1 and had no delays at all. Sorry to learn about the problems you experienced in trying to buy stuff as well.

All in all not a stunning success for you.

However, in view of your success in finding more rods for your RSU than you'll use in several lifetimes you should, perhaps, start a business as the prime supplier to the model railway trade!

Just find your friendly local welding company. For example when I had my RSU I went to Preston Welding Supplies, as I was buying some brazing rod for another project at the time they chucked in a few 6mm carbon rods for free. They had enough scrap pieces on the floor for dozens of RSUs. If worst come to the worst then machine mart will do you 2 rods for £3.59.

Although I reckon you'll get them cheaper at your local welding firm. IIRC correctly Preston Welding supplies it was about £10 for a dozen rods - but that was a few years ago.

Really disappointed I didn't get to you all in time. By the time I'd finished buttering up potential suppliers it was ten-to-two and there wasn't anyone I recognised at the track so I went for a burger and chips.

I had a different experience to Jeff, in that I had positive feedback from everyone I spoke to – and that was a lot of traders!

I came away with four hopper kits and a DJH Class 03 kit, to see what the competition are up to. While talking to ABS Adrian I completely forgot to get some wagon kits – again! I also wanted some wheels from Peartree and a couple kits from Heywood. I'll have to wait until the next one.
