Some progress in that I have turned the wheel flanges down
Hi Cynric,

Did you do this whilst clamping the steel tyres between two discs, using a live centre in the tailstock to apply pressure?

And to return to the "I never had any technical training at school" body of thought in the doom and gloom thread, neither did I as I was selected to do music instead of DT. It just requires a few hours with Peter Wright's excellent book on tools and metal working generally, plus maybe Ken Sparey and Tubal Cain (required reading for all railway modellers in my mind) and maybe an hour or two with someone who has used a lathe before plus a few bar ends.
If you click on this link, you will get details of all 3 books at Amazon.

I need to check pictures re the fading as I dont want to push too far from the Maroon/Blue transition and Druid went MFYP in Jan '68 along with AWS fitting so I need to do some more research about painting times and names, it is going to be a way off yet anyway.
Once finances recover I shall be getting a couple more LMS milk tanks (my research shows that quite a number were transfered to the WR  ) before thinking about WR

Thats it  I also managed to get the width down to 5mm, and then removing 30 thou from the back of the wheel center. Next step is to make a b to b gauge as the axles arent much help in that department now  :headbang:

Warship - where did that come from?!  :))

I'm still waiting for JLTRT to do one in 7mm.  I could be waiting some time....

Druid MFYP is on my 'to do' list too, mind you so are a pair of double heading Warships in early BFYP........... come to think of it,  so are half a dozen Milk Tanks !

Oops, me wondering off topic a bit again  ::)

There are two options for wagons in 7mm 1.5 i/d or 2mm i/d both of which require work on slaters axles are 1.8 mm iirc. i think the 1.5 are a better bet as the od is less than the 2mm, the bearings are also quite expensive but I do have some if you want to try them.
Cynric,
Can I ask where you purchase your supplies of ball races from ?
