I'll certainly put a fuse on my 31 which I am currently hoarding on the shelf...
I really, really, wouldn't. Putting a fuse between the decoder and motor will upset the motor drive and putting one between the pick ups and decoder won't actually save the decoder: the silicon will pack up before the fuse in an over-current situation...
A simple installation with a decent decoder which we know will handle the current the motor(s) will draw is by far the better alternative. The use of a fuse with Escap motors was to protect them from heavy-handed 'feedback' controllers as the motors could quite easily get 'spiked' fusing the motor windings. We're not talking about the same thing here, where we want to get the correct rating for the decoder, so that the motor's duty cycle doesn't damage the decoder.

I will happily take on board your advice here, Steph - as you have no doubt worked out already I really have not yet got the drop on these decoder issues :eek: Why has everything have to be so complicated these days?
