First of all, your thoughts on buffers. A cast brass set were supplied with the kit along with turned heads/shafts but no springs. I found a set of white metal buffers which also had turned heads but no springs. Both sets match the prototype but as they are very short, getting them to work by the traditional method with a coil spring on the shaft looks rather difficult if not impossible! Perhaps a piece of springy wire could be soldered somewhere under the footplate to make them work, but then again is it really worth the effort.
Anyway, I've soldered the etched bracket that holds the tank front to the smokebox, well it did on the prototype.

Trojan won’t shunt more than a couple or three wagons so I’m not too concerned about any shock but will try to work this in to the build.
On that basis, it's probably more trouble than it's worth to spring the buffers. Sprung wagon buffers will give you a measure of shunting shock resistance.

As he/she/it will only be pushing a handful of wagons around Graig Wen, I have to wonder if all the extra effort to spring them will be worth the extra work.
