Designing For Laser Cutting

here is a shot with an attempt at faded creosote and out of interest I poked a bit of wire at it in the second left upright to see if I could do anything about nails and the answer would appear to be yes

I feel that I can smell the creosols from here... and the staining around the nail hole looks just so.

Pure luck :) I think this special card is the new wood! I could probably knock up a wooden PW hut using if I had some drawings

Bit of a Top gear challenge here.... A laser cut hut in an hour  Started at half past eight from a drawing in GWRJ
Drawing up in Autocad followed by cutting and assembly. I know its a bit rough but it has amused me :))

Some parts....

Ive been promising Rob I would get on with this, so as a break from 1/6 suspension I whacked this lot out the laser

The final letters need to be 6mm and these are 4mm but im hoping a lamination of 2 +4mm will do the job and keep costs down. unfortunately im out of 2mm mdf , fingers crossed postie will bring it tomorrow morning.

Right, back to cars....

Rather than cluttering the Heyside thread I thought I would post progress here as this thread is filled with my ramblings :)
As you can see I have worked up the stonework around the windows and the mouldings and corbel for the door. the overall height and the reveal over the door need to be reduced a little and I can start to think about cutting something...

The man from Heyside wants an interior.......Really havent a clue but current thoughts are along these lines
Captain Mainwarings orrice is on the left, and I think it needs a fireplace :) the counter will have a screen joining the door on the left.

I'm lost for words - this is going to be magnificent. Awesome use of technology.

The only problem, of course is that it will lead to a desire to upgrade everything to a similar standard. Oops, did I say that out loud?

looks like Bodmin General, a typical west country station
Ilfracombe

The bank is now ready to save as a dxf for AutoCad and a little fiddling with layers and tabs before hitting the laser.
There is a huge temptation to add more detail to the 3d model, but for this sort of exercise the main purpose of solid modelling is to establish the proportions and to calculate the roof panels etc the fancy stuff is unnecessary and the final overlays can be added in AutoCad.
