Designing For Laser Cutting

great work again, but I think that the arched brick lintel would look better as a one and a half soldier course rather than two brick on edge courses. See page 213 Book of the Warships.

Better get the Staffordshire Blue paint ready for the surrounds etc.

cheers

Im going by the photograph I have, its a funny little building that was put up during the war, so I dont think they were too bothered about niceties :) the next task is a 1/32 corrugated asbestos roof, was there a standard sheet size?

there were sheets 8'x2', 2'6" & 3' at that time the corrugations would have been at 6" centres - peak to peak and overall depth 3" - peak to trough. Don't forget you didn't have to worry about HS&E then so the more crocodilite the better!

Thanks Mike, I shall have to make a press tool and form them from some copper sheet, I have a cunning plan....

After a slightly hairy session with the router and in between other jobs, I managed to get the corners mitred and this is the first test join

The top should close up when I get some clamps on, but the concept works and it is a million miles better than a butt join. My router setup needs some attention as mitres on 2mm mdf are a bit different from putting a chamfer on fence posts :))

I think that you have produced a great kit of parts there Guv, how many can Simon get on the shelves of the bookshop - might even appeal to the 10mm brigade and start the conversion process.

cheers

There is some way to go yet :)) the fit of the mitres is not good enough, so I shall be experimenting with the painting on this one and cutting a few more out

This might have solved the corrugated iron problem

Bought 20 years ago, but they are apparently still available. :)

I cut a second sample today, tried a new way of chamfering the corners, which is 80% successful, (although any attempt at chamfering 2mm mdf is going to be difficult due to the thinness of the material) The 7mm corrugated sheets are loosely taped in place and look pretty good in 1/32 which is a stroke of luck :) The door and soffits need to be drawn and that should be it. I dont to fit an interior as the windows are going to be boarded up.

looking really good, I would start thinking about packaging materials and costs if I were you - there could be a high demand once you have established an sales outlet in a certain bookshop in Bath.

cheers

Guv,
Not wishing to sound pedantic but was the brick arch lintol over the door based on a prototype, usualy there are a couple of extra bricks on the top row creating staggered vertical joints. I have attached a page from a building construction book of mine showing what I mean.:)

Excellent work mate  ATB, Col
P.S. I can see me commissioning the walls for a certain loco shed in the future :D
