Yes Heather your right, I've changed the couplings on both my hymek & western, the heljan ones are a bit long!
Alas I won't be having one of these, they didn't arrive in the Paddington area until the late 60's so too late for me but as I stock them I will get to cast my eye over them when they arrive

As a foaming class 40 fan it does look very nice indeed, I was impressed with the bare test model these last few years on the display stands, but it certainly looks more the part with the paint on now.

For me there is only one really small niggle with the windscreen and cab roof, which I doubt no one else will notice or worry about, JLTRT nailed it perfectly but Heljan just miss the bulls eye by the merest margin.

Price wise, it's a no brainer, the Heljan wins hands down, RTR for probably the same price as a bare JLTRT kit with no wheels or motors etc.

I reckon it'll sell out pretty quickly as it's a popular prototype.

Phwoar.... don't suppose anyone has photographic evidence of blue 40's in revenue service in the Welsh Valleys :( cause I'd really like to validate owning one!

I would have thought that they were prohibited due to the long wheel base. The 37 ' s, if I remember correctly used to have high flange wear so Lord knows what the 40 ' s would have had.

Regulars on The Welsh Marches line & at Severn Tunnel Junction, so a bit of artistic (modelling) license, besides its your railway.

I'm sure one must have made it to the welsh valleys, and if Simon Thomson can run a Peak on Aberbeeg, I'm sure you can run 40.

Can't wait to get mine.

There are photo's of one in Ebbw Yard on a rail tour - just not my particular one. So Rule 1 applies.

Simon

PS It had a 37 pilot, presumably to point it into the corners!

Ah come on.......if you can run a semi, surely you can stretch to a nice whistler? Imagine it whistling away with the sound bouncing back off those flats?
