Todays progress been slow, lost the firebox sides, cos I stuck them onto masking tape I found them on the bottom of the box

Nice start there Mr Chigley

Take the axles off, give them a quick dose of wire wool or emery cloth, til they’re bright all over and then wipe them over with an oily rag, you’ll find they’ll rust much less, if at all.

Once you’ve polished them, if you can dip them in an aggressive degreaser (eg acetone) and metal-black / gun-blue solution, rinse with boiling water, and dry before oiling, so much the better.
