Guildex 2016

I'm supposed to be modelling pre-grouping Great Eastern in gauge 3, but I succumbed to a Heljan AC railbus at Telford. It was a bargain! Spent Sunday evening looking for the location for a micro layout to include it, and a green Dapol 08 and some mineral wagons. Perhaps somewhere round Bodmin?

Both locos served in the area but not at the same time iirc. The Railbus to Bodmin North was well gone by the time 08s were used on the Wenford clay run. I'm sure an alternative history could see you right though. Beattie well tanks scrapped earlier and 1366s never transferred...

thanks, Chris. After my post, I'd found your thread. Very encouraging. I'm thinking of something smaller, using Grainge and hodder's baseboard system, as I already use that for my G3 layout Lea Siding. Only one more question to clinch it: was there a pickup goods during the railbus era? ( a monoculture of clay wagons might be a bit dull) and if so, what books do I buy?

Due to being busy collecting various items that I preordered etc. I didn't take many photo's at Guildex, but this caught my eye as an excellent piece of modelling. Having seen the 1:1 on a white van.

Ha ha yeah but you're biased!!
I had a good look at the S7 track this time, as I've been up to my neck in hand-spiking my US track, & to be honest I was surprised at the length of the S7 sleepers. They seemed to be so wide outside of the rails that they made the gauge look rather narrow, instead of obviously wider than standard O, which rather defeated the object of the excercise in my eyes. Just my opinion.

Phill, sorry I thought I'd mentioned the location when my lad declared his "view" I know - if he found D1015 boring, just what hope IS there...??!!

The S7 sleepers were a scale 9' long since those who paid for them (and would use up any excess on their own layouts) model GWR pre-WW1. The GWR didn't reduce it's sleeper length to 8'6" until sometime during WW1, if I understand it correctly. Also IIRC, lots of 9' sleepers survived until long after WW1 and until after WW2 in some places.

Best graffiti I ever saw on the back of a white van, however, was :-
'DANGER - PRAT IN TRANSIT'

There is/used to be a white van in the Newark are with the registration plate DO 55 ERS... It's taking it to a whole new level when the graffiti on the van isn't as ironic as the number plate!

Best graffiti I can remember was during my truck driving days, on an old Merc artic with leaf springs on the trailer I passed on the way down to Italy read...."Un-sprung Kraut Technique."
