Hi,

I had a parcel yesterday from BrushType4 which contained a host of laser cut goodies that will enable us to push on in the remaining 2 months before Telford. Amongst them was some chimney stacks.

The previous half-relief buildings behind the station had no chimneys, which we saw as a major omission. As we were rebuilding the whole row and replacing the rooves, we made provision for the chimneys, broadly of a size to match others elsewhere on the layout. This meant that Phil (BT4) had to adjust his sizing to fit our requirement, and Alan Buttler had to adapt his chimney post and plinth size to fit the dimensions I gave him. If it all worked as planned.......

Well, it did, and I put together the first chimney as proof of concept this morning. I still need to add the flaunching from Milliput, but here is the basic chimney. The pots and plinth are resin printed.

The pub windows have also arrived - lovely sash windows, so the refurb can continue. It's going to change it's name and have a bracket pub sign, but that's Tim's homework.

Looks great.

Layout looks great as does Roger's Stanier Cl3 tank - are you able to advise if this is a scratch build or from a kit? Speaking as a WR man I am a bit ignorant of matters LMR but this particular loco is one I need for my 1950s 7mm model of Great Malvern and so far I have failed to find a kit.

Hi Julian,

The Stanier Cl3 tank is from a Chowbent kit. It is now under the JLTRT umbrella, but is no longer available. I know Pete thinks they aren't of a good enough standard to re-release, but that one made into a good model. There is no other kit available. Perhaps Roger may add a few words as to its 'buildability'. You do see them second hand from time to time.

I have one in my to do pile, and I'm looking forward to building it.

Hello Julian,
This was my first and probably only Chowbent kit and was a delight to build. The etches were truly superb with all the detail etched onto them, just a few rivets to press out. My only difficulty was lining up the tank and bunker sides to the running plate, this was pre tab and slot days! Probably the biggest let down was the complete lack on any cab detail which I had to "improvise" aided by a lot of wonderful help from fellow Thunderers. Have a look at my own thread "A West Midland works" where I have gone into greater detail. Hope you find a kit and maybe Pete will reintroduce this particular kit because frankly there is very little wrong with it.

Hi Roger
Many thanks for the info and reference to your 'West Midland works' thread. I will now scan the s/h markets for a kit.

Hi,

7 weeks to go and the pace is picking up:). Everyone has homework now.

Brian turned up on Wednesday with some stalls for the marktplatz (oops, wrong thread)...

P1010528a.jpg

This is of course where Cynric's bank should have been.

While Clive had been building the last of the lattice footbridge kits to complete this scene....

P1010529a.jpg

Note the double scroll above the supporting leg, as at Werneth. It's a huge improvement on the solid footbridge that was there before.

You can see that the pub refurb is cutting it fine:)

Richard,

You might have to call in the 'DIY SOS' team in, they can do it in just nine days!!

That whole cameo picture just has it to a tee, brilliant work, what a team you have there.

Hi,

OzzyO: No idea, didn't they rely on the honesty purchase of platform tickets, and ticket inspectors on trains. I've not seen a picture of the road entrance at Werneth, but I shall keep an eye out when we are looking at photographs of the area.

In the meantime, Roger's MOK 76XXX has been lined by Warren and was given a test run on Heyside yesterday. Marvellous:). Roger should be very chuffed with himself, even if he is too modest to say so.

Hi,

Continuing work on the buildings....

Brian has finished the scribing of the Depron for the replacement stonework on the pub, and tried the windows (courtesy Phil) for fit. I'm about to take the row of buildings off and start painting.

Meanwhile, new recruit Simon Bolton has been glazing the valance on the goods warehouse and applying the separator strips. The prototype roof was glazed as we have rebuilt it, the original model was slated.

P1010566a.jpg

It needs dirtying and greening a little, but the effect is far better.

Forgive me, I may have missed an earlier mention of the chimney pots, are they 3-D prints. The colour suggests that they might be, but in the photo they look to be free of the ridges often associated with the process.

Hi,

Clive came over today to assist in tackling a tricky task - assembling the flooring for the factory. This had to be made as a removable unit that slides in on runners each side in case we wish to detail some part of the innards later. It was very flimsy until it was all together - a typical mill with cast iron columns.

Know what they are?

OK a clue.....

P1010581a.jpg

No idea? Well, they are the right colour now.

Let's separate them.

P1010582a.jpg
Yes folks, they are milk bottles, one hundred and bloody forty-four of them.

And milk bottles need milk crates.

P1010578a.jpg

P1010580.JPG

And finally, needing the tops smoothing off and painting, and the dairy lettering on the bottle (only joking on that one:) ) Posed to see if they fit....

Men in white coats are on the way, I think I hear them now....
