Back on Haskins hill and more cutting and carving, whilst I wanted this tunnel in a steep cutting I’ve opened the viewing side up a little more to make it a little easier to see the view. I’ve not finished with the carving yet so will hold off painting it. I like where the rocks will protrude from the greenery.
More polystyrene cutting to form Haskins Hill, it really is the dominant point of the layout. On the right hand side of the cutting I’ve got some skytrex retaining wall sections and buttresses on order and I think a plate layers hut or two will populate that area. There usually was one or two in front of most major tunnel mouth openings.
I’ve made some progress on Haskins Hill today as the sun was shining I thought I would use the time wisely.
Still more to do yet, I’ll add some better leaf foliage on the big tree and there’s a fern patch plus the wire in post fence to mark off the railway boundary
Another day and Haskins hill is getting bigger! I have to be able to dismantle it at the moment for storage so it may be a while before I can blend the bits in, I made up a very simple frame work for along the back and one of the Sonning boards was cut and screwed in place and a couple of trees posed. A pair of lineside buildings from Intentio arrived this morning and these have been built and the Skytrex stone wall also arrived so I have some painting to do.
Pictures with locos in usually get more attention! In this case it adds a good reference as to the size of the scenery surrounding it.
I wasn’t happy with yesterday’s efforts in that I mounted the top section of scenery horizontally, this morning I’ve rectified that and recut a new section and added a slope in, I think this looks much better and draws your eye up and the perception that Haskins hill Continues on rising. I’ve also painted up a section of slaters brick in engineers blue to match the tunnel mouth, this now ties in the new retaining wall with the tunnel mouth it’s self.
I’ve been painting on some Liquitex on the rock face in the recess to make it look damp, it’s difficult to see but in the right light it does have a slight sheen
I like the idea of making the cutting look damp, they usually are, particularly shielded from direct sunlight. Lots of ?moss and ivy on the PW hut looks right too.
The second GWR plate layers hut is this rather nice cast concrete version and it’s 4mm little brother I built for a customer. Superb kits from Intentio designs
They do look very good - the Taunton hut has been absent from the available models forever, more or less. I wonder if I could find a home for one on Podimore? There was some overlap with these things what with the SR/WR boundary changes...
Assembled 3 of the 5 boards today to add some additional polystyrene and plaster. It’s nice to see the sweep of the track work. A few extra trees have arrived for the “man planted forest”
The joint between these two will be done after track laying. All of this comes apart at the moment.
Looking downhill towards teignton cutting and into Holloway tunnel
There will be a pond here and I’m still debating whether to have a branch line or an abandoned track bed. I’m liking the idea of both but I’m also liking the photographic opportunity the branch line will offer.
Doing a little scenic work today on the back end of board 3. The Pillbox has had a decade of growth since the end of hostilities and nature is fast taking over in amongst the timber forest. Below we have an area of natural woodland
