Funny enough, having never seen one of these before this one came on this Thread, there was one on the Manchester Hardwick Bridge layout at Guildex this weekend! It was quite nice to be able to recognise what it was.View attachment 246934
Just the roof to finish now, and it will be ready for service. The faded and aged look of its paintwork has come out well and will contrast nicely with the other engineers stock on the layout. Evidence showed that this ballast brake was not repainted black, gulf red or green like many if its contemporaries and continued displaying the remains of it original 1948 engineers' blue paint at the time the layout is set and for many years after.

As the wood was very new I couldn't really use it to represent the worn timber showing through old paint on the model. So I used the black coat to seal the wood then oversprayed a mottled coat of light and mid grey before adding the top coat of blue. Which I distressed and rubbed through to show the greyed wood under. Bizarre but in effect I had to paint the wood to represent worn wood.Hi Neil,
That's turned out really well, I wasn't sure what would happen when I saw it painted black!
You are due some commission from Poppy Woodtech, as I bought one on Sunday at Stafford!
I wonder if you'd mind taking a photo of the underside please.
Cheers,
Kevin
My Land Rover which came with me to North America when I emigrated is no longer on the DVLA data base (removed as exporte). But it still exists! With me. And about to change countries again as we move further north. My Mum’s, then my, 1967 half timbered Mini traveller no longer exists (but I still have the reg plate!)
My dad’s Rover 2000TC (in which I learned to drive) says the tax is overdue, from 1984….

An additional structure (well extreme low relief) added to the rear of the area where the line into the paint factory vanishes off scene. For the most, this area is hidden. But we noticed an area of the white backdrop showed at a distance if viewed from the pub end. This now adds interest to that viewpoint. Albeit, only seen from 8ft away!
