Most of my passenger stock dates back to the last century and is comet sides overlaid on to proprietary models.

Although the Hawksworth coach was a full Comet kit. Most of my locos are detailed and weathered with crew, lamps etc but these 2............not yet.

Of course being a colliery you have to have coal wagons. In the 1950s and 60s there were a bewildering variety.

Centre of pic is a ex GWR Diagram N28 or N29. These were single door N23s converted between 1934 and 1937 to have three side doors and used for loco coal. These were the only loco coal wagons to have end doors

I don't think you would have found one of these in North Somerset? A Chivers kit and a pleasure to build.
if you want riveted minerals then Parkside kits (awaiting weathering) are great fun.

A bit about the North Somerset line. Frome, Radstock and Bristol

One of 2 Parcels trains. 3 ex LNER vans in the consist.followed by 3ex GW
and BR built Siphon G, an ex LMS Ambulance car conversion; then
a Southern BG, a ex LMS GUV and a string of nondescript vans.

One of the shorter goods trains is made up of unfitted vans.
A mixture of proprietary and kit built and needing a second round with weathering.
Second from the brake van on the right is the Parkside gunpowder van. Did they use explosives at Old Mills and
Springthorpe collieries?

You could run almost any goods wagon on this line as Marcrofts Radstock wagon works is nearby. The link to a website appears to be defunct but the variety of types passing through here is great for the model enthusiast.
The WMRC gang used to run a train of decrepit wagons going here and another train of ex works vehicles in the opposite direction.

Ruston & Hornsby Locomotive 200793 left Boultham Works in 1940, heading for William Evans & Co. Old Mills Colliery in Somerset. Sold into preservation and remaining at the Pontypool & Blaenavon Railway until 2014 as 'Gower Princess', 200793 has since been moved to the West Somerset Railway and works as the yard shunter at Williton on the West Somerset Railway.

Shortly after moving home I commissioned an attic room. To build a layout in. As soon as the plaster was (almost) dry I moved my stock boxes in.View attachment 224319Up the stairs view left.

Keep it in those plastic crates the humidity is there even after the plaster goes pink .only just seen this but may be to late .need a good air change first.

I have not read all of messages. But would it have been better to put the fiddle yard side of the layout on the blank (ok one opening) side of the loft?

The scenic side is about 3ft 10 from the wall allowing a view from the "public side". Boards 1 to 4 sit up against the wall. I can easily reach any stock. I can access all the cupboards at at a push.

that was what I was saying, but with 1 to 4 up against the wall that has only one cupboard then your problem in red will go away, and you will still have the viewing side with a passageway. Its just that 7 will replace 4 at the more open end of the room and all the middle boards will follow suit.
I can access all the cupboards at at a push. This will also go away, don't forget none of us are getting any younger.

It's your layout I'm just trying to give you an idea that you may not have thought of.

Thinking about the problem of access to inaccessible cupboards and age, one idea I had was using a kind of rolling trolley which could be pulled out with a (shunters? pole to access contents easily. Something like this, but I'm sure you could build much nicer custom ones with drawers etc as desired. I see your cupboards have a raised lip which would prevent this, but maybe useful for someone else.
