Lovely looking loco, I've always liked them since we travelled behind 41223 several times when on holiday in Penmaenmawr in the 1960's.
Modelu use real people for their figures, I wonder if any of them have turned up at an exhibition and spotted themselves at the helm.

Hi Heather,
My brother who keeps a file of 7mm loco builds from various publications going back years, has kindly dug out the relevant article. It was in the long defunct Modelling Railways Illustrated (MORILL). Whilst the article contains lots of info and excellent 7mm scale drawings, there are no photos of the inside of the cab. At the time the article was written, there were 4 7mm kits available. Oakville, MTK, DJH, Red Rose Models and it mentions that Shedmaster's kit under development was due for release in 1994! Gone are the days.

However, he has also found another article reviewing the Red Rose Models kit written by Richard Lambert (Dikitriki) There is an illustration of the Ivatt class 2 back plate, albeit a mock up. The photo is from the NRM.



Too late for your build, but you can at least check how close your representaton is to how it should be. And come to that, I can check my Oakville build, as both these articles appeared after kit had been completed.

Skeletons in the cupboard. It seems you've been inspiring me from the beginning!

Do you still have the Red Rose Ivatt 2?

Now there is a prototype crying out for a HiFi kit maker to develop a kit for. Do you you by any chance know anybody?

Hi Peter,

I do still have it- it's a most appropriate loco for Heyside. It falls short, now, in comparison to Tony Geary's detailed DJH example, but there wasn't much about at the time, and I do remember being pretty pleased with the result. As always, I'd do things differently now, but that's all part of the learning process and one's modelling development.

I think Mickoo has his (long-term) sights on LMS and BR standards, but anything in that area is but a glimmer at the end of a very long tunnel.

My "wish list" refference was very much tongue in cheek.

Yes, I'm sure you and I both would do things differently with our Ivatts if we were building them now. I'm sure Heather would say the same with her Shedmaster version, as it seems it was started many years ago. That said, it's a very fine model, as is your Red Rose version and my Oakville one, built back when God was a child.

I'll post some pics of mine on my own thread.

No worries about hijacking, Peter. That's useful information, even though it shows my quick bodge for the cab falls woefully short. It's a good job the cab is enclosed!

1994, eh? Wow. I think that must have been about the time Best Beloved saw the beginnings of the loco from Dick Bollen. I think he persuaded Dick to sell him an etch, and I think we have one of only two Shedmaster locos in existence. I believe Laurie Griffin has the other, but it's not anywhere near completion. Now it's finally finished, Best Beloved is very keen to show it off at every opportunity.

As you say, if I was building it again I'd approach it in a very different way. It was agreed I would finish the model as best as possible, and I think we've sort of achieved that. Close up, you can see the flaws, but for a kit that never saw the light of day it's not turned out too bad. It looks like an Ivatt 2, and that's the main thing.
