Now stop this.... the blue meanies are getting annoyed by what they consider to be poor humour :headbang: .

On second thoughts, fair game  .

No dear boy we are massing on the end of the ramp, Platform 5 in one hand pencil in the other enjoying our Tizer and butties watching all of the older Green persuasion sitting down in the Brute to rest their aging legs, moaning about the price of a platform ticket:p

Hi All

This weekend we had another Calcutta Sidings 2 test with the shared

Fiddleyard.

Cleaning the track

class 31 meets HST

Hornby 50 on test. Hornby 50's have a bad reputation in P4 - this one is a straight wheel swap.

Reverse test. RTR HEA's simply rewheeled still with solid buffers.

You can see some of Tim's videos here - http://www.youtube.com/user/Bigt62789

Hi All

Been busy building more platform structures (i suppose modules is the right word). Starting with a boring one!

module-1vs.jpg

This is the viewing side

module-1os.jpg

And the operating side. You will note that the little details are left off the non viewing side and the door is simply framed rather than recessed.

More interesting is the module for the lift.

lift-module.jpg

The recess at the none lift end is where the timetables will go. These modules still need the bumpers adding and all 8 (there are 4 of each) need posters. These will be added after the painting stage.

I remember looking at those timetable boards. is there provision for lighting built in or is it added later on?

Most of the lighting is on a lower ceiling than the tops of these structures so I will be adding that later. The shopping center will sit on top.

The most recent platform modules are now painted - heres how they look in place.

I have also revisited my first pair of HST power cars. Adding guards windows and sorting out the livery. I found a pic of 43151 at new street in 1987 still with the first version of IC livery so that provides a bit of variation. Its seen here with one of the later IC liveried power cars.

Hi All

I plan a fleet of 8 class 31s, 2 of which are done so far (31108 is back in the shop). Of these 3 will have Hornby power (they are all Lima bodies for those new to the thread) 1 will be a dummy, and the other 4 (or perhaps 3 if I decide to do one as a light loco and keep the Lima motor) are going to be powered by the innards of Athearn PA1's. Below is progress so far on the first Athearn test build.

Athearn, one of the better drives out there, and dirt cheap too, always admired how those in the US could get such smooth runners for almost 1/3 the cost of a UK model.

Indeed so, They are a bit 'floppy' which is better for P4 track than some of the super rigid diesels we have now. I picked up a load years ago for what worked out something like £6 each!

Now that is interesting... I'd heard some years ago that the Athearn PA1 chassis matched the Class 31 very closely, but I thought that the new Hornby model would've made such a conversion redundant these days. Obviously not so!!

Of course it was the contrast between Athearn drives and the cost compared to Hornby & Lima that turned some of us to the Dark Side many years ago. Don't even mention the difference in the couplings.....

Hi Jordan

It would have if hornby had got their 31 body at least as good as the Lima one, alas they didnt!

Hi All

One of my batch of 31's has jumped ahead of the others due to the original body being the right livery (although I re-sprayed the ends) and that its an unpowered one. Bearing this in mind I cut a few corners on the pipe work and just used wire as it will always be inside another loco. (you will note I still have to add couplings and if you really know your 31's the radiator fan cowl)

The victim this time is 31413, which I found a piccie of looking quite filthy!

I was quite pleased with how the wet bits came out on this one.
