Re-spraying a Vanguard Allegro

Ok, the purpose of this thread is just to show you another of my little projects
As some of you are aware Ross has an Allegro, so i thought it would be nice to copy the colour and registration/number plates as the same as his and put it onto one of my motorail flats

The first stage is to take the model to bits :vista: :vista: . This was harder than i thought it was going to be :( . The reason was that the chassis is fastened to the body with rivets (not screws as i had thought :headbang: ) so after about an hour carefully drilling (by hand) and getting a couple of blisters :headbang: i moved onto the Dremel  Wish i had started with this :x This only took a few minutes.

We now have a model of a Allegro IN BITS :vista:  . The only damage thus far is the windscreen wipers are slightly bent as they are very fine. These should straighten out ;)

The next stage will be to slightly rub the body to give the primer somthing to key to. Then i need to source some bronze spray paint  .
More up-dates when i have some more done.

Rob

yo need to be careful with bronze paint as it can be a little coarse. I have the 'guvs motor' and the paint flakes are a bit coarse. I would be inclined to mix your own paint.

Yes I would go for a flat colour rather than metallic, are replacement transfers available for 1/43 vehicles ?

I'd be very tempted to strip the paint back to bare metal. It's something I do for my 4mm road vehicle repaints, often I find a beautifully sharp casting that's been masked by the dip job that the factory has applied.

Good work so far Rob, might be inclined to strip it back to bare metal too, have a look but im pretty sure the door handles are separate they might "pop" out had some BLMC bronze spray but as Cynric says it is very rough as it comes out of tin and will need a laquer coat which by the end could end up being too thick.... know all too well about the CV's CME got one on my list of jobs to do, as well as NSF wheel bearing, track rod ends and a couple of ball joints etc etc all good fun :vista:  Ross....

Thanks mate  I did'nt realise that the door handles were push fit too , i thought they were the lugs for the glazing  . I've managed to get 3 of them out no bother but the 4th broke in half :headbang: still should be able to use it though  Hows the 25 coming on ?

Old car nostalgia moment coming on. Late seventies I had a Minx, a couple of 1800 Marinas, a mk2 Escort and an MGB roadster. The Escort was undoubtedly the best car, but if I could drive just one of them again it'd be the first Marina, no logic to it but I would. Mind you it was teal blue almost indistinguishable from rail blue, hmm ......

Hi Rob I have some BLMC bronze I could post you it or you could post me stripped agro and I could spray/laquer it and post it back to you.... Also, Hi CME, find it fairly easy to get parts although if you still have any CV's I'll definately make use of them (got a noisy one at mo)   Ross..
