I think my post may have been misinterpreted!
I was not implying that blue was the only colour for a duchess, far from it as a clean maroon one is superb. I was merely stating that the duchesses were, along with LNER A4's, one of the few classes where the blue looks "right"

Anecdote alert:

I once was volunteered by Mrs. O to collect a taupe-coloured evening dress for her work colleague from our local dept. store.
I found an assistant who brought it out , I was hoping she'd sort out payment but she told me to get in the long (New Year sale) till queue.
I had to hold the hanger up high (me not overly tall, she very tall).
So, 5 minutes in one of the pretty girls behind me caught my eye and said "That colour really suits you".
