I had a brilliant day at the show - really glad I decided to take the train as it was much more civilised and relaxing journey. Every train on time and plenty of seating space. It was quite amusing on the way down as the one change was at Wolverhampton and whilst waiting for the connection on the platform it was a game to work out who was going to Guildex. OzzyO was easy to spot but I reckon 80% of those waiting were off to Guildex. Sure enough most of the train emptied when we got to Telford. 15-20 minute walk up to the Centre then the 20minute queue to get in but it was worth it.
First stop as I got in was the test track as Rafe Shirley was running a live steamer. It's probably the best part of 30 years since we last met so it was really nice to get a few minutes to chat and say hello. He's currently working on a live steam WD 2-8-0, he showed me the chassis and it was exquisite.
I finally managed to get to say hello to quite from the forum and it was really good to be able to put faces to names, thank you for listening to me talking incessantly.
However there are few apologies I need to make.
First
@Rob Pulham and Christine - sorry for my rather terse hello. I had two or three people all speaking at once and I struggle in those situations. I was hoping to see you later to chat properly but never got chance. I did manage to get to see your entries in the modelling competition, the wagons and diorama looked good - I hope you won an award for them.
Second Phil
@BrushType4 - I popped past a couple of times to say hello but you were heavily into your sales patter so I didn't want to interrupt. I was impressed that the punter wasn't allowed to leave until he handed over a tenner for the platelayers hut!!
Finally Graham
@Dog Star - I was keeping an eye out for you all day and then sod's law I spotted you just as I was legging it for the door to catch my train and I didn't have time to stop. I'll have to be more organised next time.
Had a great time chatting to the Finney7 crew. Many thanks for the hospitality and it's great to see the interest in the kits. I've had a quick peak at the V2 and very impressed. So books are out trying to decide on a suitable prototype and currently flicking through transport treasury to get some photos to work from. There's nothing like getting a new kit to focus the effort on clearing out the current work on the bench so the afternoon has been spent progressing a few jobs and I hope to have an update soon.
