It's strange how a few years ago we ended up with the weird-drive 14XX and the LMS 6-w 'Stove' with the centre axle fixed and the outer axles on pony trucks. When one compares these two abortions with the brilliantly designed Bachmann MR/LMS 4-4-0 compound that ran as straight as a dart, it is a shame Bachmann didn't design the 14XX. The even tinier 0-6-0T's illustrated on your layout are little masterpieces.

I have a Hattons 14xx, it has never turned a wheel, and has remained in the display cabinet since purchase! What really jarrs for me is the lack of the flange around the dome, it just blends into the boiler! I have a High Level 14xx chassis, an Airfix body, and a Riceworks 14xx detailing kit plus Ultrascale P4 wheels, although I may swop them for EM wheels, as I have a few of the EM Society ready made points and lengths of track.

If the fitters at Hereford shed can manage to ensure the right couplings, the Shedmaster may see fit to roster it on a local goods working along the branch to Kington and Capel Bethesda next April? ;)

What a splendid idea..............we shall have to confer......... perhaps the unlikely appearance of one of these, perchance ?

Or even..........improbable as it might have been....

The P class 0.6.0Ts are truly lovely, Larry. Their running varies from very good to excellent. You can get an occasional 'notching' with some examples but this is normally sorted by checking that the motor is correctly seated in it's bracket. Ensuring it's clipped in properly generally does the trick.

Pretty certain they are 'all wheel drive' as per the 14xx but they must have either better tolerances or better quality components ( or both ) , as they work.

The 'P' class don't have any evidence of 'DJM' of them, so consequently the drive mechanism is more traditional and runs much better.

I'm having a bit of a cull of RTR stuff at the moment, including one or two small locos, but the 'P' class is staying (and will eventually be weathered and given an outrageously improbably Welsh name associated with an equally unlikely light railway).

Evening all,

Things are quiet at Chateau Sheep at present. Preparations for Christmas are complete. Books and games tomorrow as No1 daughter is still in school, very late break up this year.

I'm looking forward to Santa popping in. Hopefully he will be dropping one of these off....nesta1_720x.png

I'm new to the 009 thing but this was simply irresistible. The pencils are out and a few sketches will be made regarding a place for this and their assiciates to scamper about in. This won't be at the expense of the SE&CR project, for which a few things are awaited. However, planning for the BLT is pretty much sorted.

So, a bit to be going on with.

In the meantime, can I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

See - Rob knows about Santa as well. Sadly I suspect that No 1 daughter will be telling him that Santa doesn't exist but that's fake news. Rob and I know that he (or she) does.

As a long time denizen of the narrow gauge world, I’ll be very interested to see what you get up to with this one. I should perhaps point out that sheep, limited clearances and NG trains don’t always mix :-(

Happy Christmas!

Evening all,

A little post Christmas modelling has seen a much overdue job attended to.

Back in August, Sheep Dip appeared at the Cardiff Model Railway show. The weekend was marred by the plunge of one the Pecketts some 54 inches to the floor. Damage to the loco was confined to the front buffer beam, buffers, chimney and loco steps.

Placed back into box and that's where it lay, until today.

A spare body was used to donate the front buffer beam and steps. The original chimney had been found. New buffers from a Hornby B2 were sourced. These are slightly larger than the originals.

All were fitted and then weathered to blend in with the original weathered finish.

And here's the result.......
