Talk about go around in a full circle...I am now back looking at Wenfordbridge...good job I didn't give this thread a Scottish layout name...
I still like all the Scottish options, however using a 1900mm Ikea lack shelf for the scenic section meant I will need at least a second shelf at 1500mm to allow a fiddleyard (Ikea lack shelves are available in 1100mm or 1900mm length) and then are starting to get big again...and will be difficult to justify alongside all my other layouts.
So then it struck me, what if I go back to Wenfordbridge and instead of a single 1900mm board I use 2 1100mm which can be joined together and sit happily on our 2000mm dining room table...with just a little overhang at one or each end...
So I have remapped out the track plan and I think it works a lot better and the extra 300mm gained means the headshunt will be more workable. Using the BB 08 and a few skytrex clay hoods I
had a play looked at what sort of opportunities it will give for shunting. Basically rearranging a few wagons here and there but I will get to make my own track, there is only 3 turnouts and I can get one board underway in the summer.
Here's a few pics of it...and a typical scenario...
And when I see this, I think how can I resist?...
So this is looking promising again. Whilst it is not set in Scotland and won't need the latest acquisitions for assembling a class 26 and a rake of MK I's, it will allow toe dipping to commence sooner than anticipated.
Western Region - BR Blue - 7mm...I guess that moves the topic away from area 51 then...
