7mm Withyn Reach ... still alive and well!!

Well the general idea at the start (although the remit has been widened somewhat;)) was to have an interest in - and model, preferably in 7mm or larger - the Western Region of BR....

In that case you have better qualifications than me Jordan.......

Hey Jordan,

If you can wait until the end of the week I'll give you a lift. I'm going to be in the Cosford/Telford area Thurs/Fri and hopefully moving to Telford from Aug onwards (if I get this new post that is) :D

Would that be Donnington, Telford, Mark ?.

Been there a few times delivering pharmaceuticals.

I've finished the re-wiring of the main board today, and had a play ... er, I mean testing session with my Barclay Shunter, so it's up'n'running again...:)
I've now dismantled the traverser, right down to the frames, which are really warped and destined for a bonfire... so I need to start again with that. I like the idea of cassettes, using aluminium channel for the 'rails', but must investigate prices, as B&Q ask silly money as far as I can tell....

How true, even though B&Q is one of the cheaper DIY stores.

Maybe some rail or Peco track will be cheaper than ally angle ?
Yes, I could re-use the track off the traverser, but angle would possibly also help keep the cassette base straight, if it's mdf or ply or suchlike?... I'm sick of using materials that warp as soon as you just look at them.... :(

Someone in the Gazette a while ago used Peco track inside square section UPVC guttering ..........worked very well apparently:);).....I would have used this myself, but manhandling 14 foot long cassettes didn't seem like a good idea :))

No piccies to prove anything I'm afraid, but just to report that I've been working on re-building the Fiddleyard for the layout. (up by the shed - does that count as a garden railway now?? :D )
There's pretty much just the wiring left to tackle.
After my attempt at a sliding traverser I've gone beyond the KISS principle (Keep It Simple Stupid) and am now using the KIRSS principle instead - Keep It REALLY Simple Stupid.....

Once I get chance, piccys will explain.....

Okay, just to break the insults for a bit, here's some pics from the chaos of my shed showing just how low bodgery can go in the art of baseboards....
The aim was to make the traverser "user friendly" from in front of the layout rather than behind, and simplify it a bit as it didn't slide properly on the old drawer runners, probably because of my inept carpentry and inability to get them exactly parallel..
Firstly controls were relocated to the front - a point switch rod on the left here and the section switches:-

The power and sound box feeds are under the canal, along with the other point switch rod:-

The original board that hid the fiddleyard from the front has been removed and replaced with a cut down bit just at the end, and a rudimentary form of "blank bridge" at the end to hide the trains a bit more behind the old building:-

Power is fed via audio plugs from the layout to the short fixed track at the end of the fiddleyard. The traverser deck now just sits on the board loose and can be shuffled across easily enough - only two positions are required. There will be small bits of brass to connect the tracks to feed power - haven't finished that bit yet!!

From a low angle the view block works quite well. I don't have any British O Scale up the shed, so you'll have to do with a Gratuitous Soo Line picture to demonstrate it....

Hey Jordan, you are being very unfair to yourself. The model shows lots of nice and neat work. "Carry On Modelling" and just hope that Hattie Jacques allows a model room in "Our House".
