Steve, Have you forgotten this memorable post?
Methinks Jordan is a true craftsman, for he underestimates the quality of his workmanship!

I don't even need to click on the link  Still makes me cringe thinking about it!
That was the first (and hopefully last) time I get drunk and try and drive the internet :)
Oh gawd here we go again....
Listen, when I see some of the traversers and sector plates on the Exhibition circuit and how well they've been engineered, believe me - a warped bit of contiboard resting on a slice of hardboard, supporting my famous home-made "guess the gauge" Code 100 track is definitely not "Craftsmanship", and it's also amazing what flat black paint can hide, in best Soo Line tradition !! :)

Nice solution for the fiddle yard Jordan ;).......what are your plans for the blank bridge ?

Phill :)
Umm... I don't have any plans for the blank bridge... It is just there to try & hide the train a bit more, and leaving it black I was hoping that it won't draw attention to itself too much.

As further evidence that my talent is being somewhat over-estimated in certain circles, I would also like to point out in the pictures that the pin is missing from the split hinges that are supposed to be holding both boards together. As it is, they have stayed together without the pins for the whole weekend now - but I bet you that just as soon as I put some expensive loco or piece of stock on the boards, they'd collapse.....:shit:

Well put the pin in then!!!. We don't want to see another loco hit the floor do we

The Deed is Done.

Today Withyn Reach moved home from Shed to Loft, and my Hymek ran the inaugural service.
I did take a short video clip of the train arriving, but my home Broadband is currently down, so I'm here on a dongle:confused: , which would take forever to download it....:(

Just as with the layout, Normal Service will be resumed as soon as possible..!!!

Okay, nothing spectacular, and the camera wildly over-compensated the lighting, but here's the clip...

The Hymek numbers have been 'worked on', prior to fitting etched ones (still to do), and the sound is from an MRC Soundbox - American sounds from an under-board speaker, no DCC Witchcraft here I'm afraid, so what with trying to run the train, hold the camera and operate the sound system I didn't get to play some of the other nice sounds it can do such as flange- and brake- squeal.
Still, a historic moment for me and a far cry from a few months back when I was contemplating scrapping this layout....

PS I am happy to report that the pins are most definitely in place in the split hinges!!

Jordan, how about exercising your role as Flying Squad member by changing the thread title to reflect the positive change in status of the layout? Possibly something like...

"Withyn Reach - turnaround secures future of UK Small Line".

Ahem !....American horns on a HYMEK !!!!  ......... SACRILEGE!!!!! :D;)

Seriously though, great to see it up & running :):cool::cool: ........just lose the horn :D;)

Having said that though, I am very impressed with the sound unit.........I bet you could get one up on the DCC boys as I would think you could use kick ass speakers with this unit

More vids please! :)

There are three choices of horn available - this is the closest to a UK horn, the others are of the "chime" type and much worse for any UK diesel!!

Like the one in the corner of this picture..? ;)

Which is why I had a long think about why I was considering it - what was wrong with it?... and as I've said, it boiled down to it just being in the wrong place!!

Any updates on this great layout, Jordan ?.

Steve
Not really, I'm afraid. I still have to work on the traverser power connections (need some brass tube and rod to fit inside it), and also need to rig up some lights over it, as although it's now safe and warm (mostly) up the loft it's also in rather a dark part, under my HO layout. I have been running engines on it occasionally though, and hopefully some time soon it will host a certain new loco.....:) ;)
