Stranger in the camp! With all the ex.LMS coaches I have been building, it probably isn't a surprise. It's a birthday present from PhilH, thank you very much. It will be renumbered to either a Chester or a Crewe 5A engine using allocations for 1955. Straight out of the box ...Sorreee.......:)

I agree Dave. The icing on the cake would have been bevel-rim drivers, but hey.

I've fitted Gibson 3' 3½" dia 10 spoke bevel rim bogie wheels (G4839ST) and painted all the rims matt black ready for weathering. It was track-tested for derailments on crossover's and all went well. It's an up-dated old-fashioned chassis with just one screw to remove body....

The sand pipes, drain cocks, brake pull rods, front steps and vacuum pipes in the accessory pack have been fitted...

During handling, a sand pipe broke off. I drilled it out and glued in a piece of brass wire bent approx. to shape...

When set, the surplus was snipped off...

The factory number was removed and the area brushed with clear cellulose so that the 'Methfix' transfers would adhere. The smokebox door plate was simply given a coat of cellulose gloss black. numeral for smokebox door plates can be found on the HMRS 7mm sheet 26 covering BR pre-Tops lettering for wagons. Then the transfers were wafted over with Halfords Satin Clear Lacquer...

Weathering was applied with a brush on brakeblocks etc using track rust and frames muck. Then the rest was sprayed on using the fine spraygun...

Ready for service as a Crewe South based engine...

I think the curve within the 6ft wide shed was laid around Peco large radius settrack. This photo shows the pony wheels are not touching the steps despite appearances...

EDIT : Just came across Hornby's remark that 25" is the minimum radius locos wall negotiate if fitted with steps and drain cocks.

Lovely work as always Larry.
I've start a thread on here again, (Trewithen) after the RM W holiday a couple of weeks ago and all the bloomin Adds on there.

The Fairburn is lovely.
..unless I'm mistaken, it's a Stanier 4-6-2?? I'll stand corrected of course! ;)

The LMS 3-coach Inter-District set has now been completed. The LNWR coach has replaced a Period I coach...
WEB LMS 16xx 2.jpg

However, I have far more coaches than I could ever use at Llanfair Road and so the two Period I coaches have gone on the transfer list as part of a thinning out process...
WEB LMS D16xx pair 1.jpg

While I am keeping the LNWR coach as a 'swinger', the Midland D1284 and the LMS D1755 and D1756 are going to a friends layout for summer holiday traffic...

Superb Larry just wish I had half of your talent for coach building though with coaches of that standard I could never make up my mind as which one to put on the transfer list ;)

Larry, it might be easy for you, able to knock out a complete coach in a couple of days, but for us who take months to build a single vehicle, it is a big deal to chop and change.
Dave.
Yeh, I understand that Dave. I was simply saying how it is for me. :) There were no takers when I advertised coaches at less than half price of WT and so I kept the bogies and interiors and binned the carcasses. The painted bogies popped up in pictures of brass coaches on the WB thread.

Larry it always amazes me how you make Peco track look so realistic and yes I know you’ve had many years perfecting the dark art but it still baffles me ……. (Note too oneself….) ’keep practicing and never give up ‘

Thanks Gismo. It's down to colouring really. I lay clean ballast and then weather it with a spraygun and portable compressor. Rails are brush painted with Phoenix-Precision 'Rusty Rails' paint. Sleepers are sprayed (rattle-can) with Howes 'Sleeper Grime' before laying the track.
