Steve I spoke to Tower about that Desert sand body. Roger said it was an early pre-pro with errors on it so they gave it away. He never said what the errors were, but have a look it may be a retrograde step for you.

Thanks cliff
I thought it might be a pre pro. I've had a good look all over even to the point of counting the louvers it the grills.
From what I can gather the main issues were on the under frame in the early pre pro models.
Im going to take a tape to it tonight and compare the two.
So far though I can't See any discrepancies.

Plates arrived today for D1000 and my dad's western
They're from Severn mill and are superb as you would expect. D1000 was £29 the standard ones are £23.
I've ordered a new set of couplings and I'm going to pick up some new vac and steam pipes at reading.

The ONLY thing that puts me off is the 2-D lion and wheel. In reality, it was cast, and very 3-D.

The same could be said for the fox in his version of 60017, which I still would like to do, although I may do 60029 for that reason...and because no-one else will.

The Golden Age A4 foxes are stamped, and very 3-D.

???? My son is still working on his A4, '27 with streamlined, non-corridor, tender so livery is the attractive purple.

What's THAT doing there? I thought it spent it's time on the ECML?
In about June '62, I used to see Lion most school days passing Stratton Park Halt just east of Swindon on its way to PDN. It was quite something to see as an 11-year old more accustomed to green Warships and Hymeks and the varied colours of the early Westerns (plus lots and lots of lovely green, steam locos)!

No kits as far as I know, hopefully in a few years heljan might just do them RTR once all the main stream Diesel classes are covered.
As for it being on the WR both lion and Falcon where being tested in 62

I have been following this thread for sometime as Ranelagh Bridge loco yard is one of a number of favourite prototype locations of mine.

The attached PDF file depicts my attempt at a Templot schematic of an embryonic 7mm/31mm gauge layout.

The set of three diamond crossings at the yard entrance are 1 in 7.5, they would be converted into double compounds (slips) should the concept proceed. Three of the turnouts are B7.5LH, the fourth being a curved B7.75LH.

The turntable is 64ft. diameter.

For the location and plan dimensions of the various buildings and boundary lines I used the 1956, 1:2500 map referred to by Colin Mortimore in a previous posting. The line angling across the drawing in the region of the diamonds is the edge of Ranelagh Bridge itself.

Great plan, I really need to have a go at temp lot. Mine would be a little different because I want the two running lines in front also. The only issue with the double slips is the amount of space they take up but of course you do need them on there.
On a different note I've found another wagon I can use on RB is a GWR bullion van, I've got a good friend who should be able to tackle the project for me as it looks like scratch building is the order of the day.

That's interesting. 31mm gauge is very restricting in terms of which manufacturers' wheelsets you can use.

Can you expand please on the model stock you will be using. Have you tested any of it over 31mm pointwork? IIRC, Martyn Wynne has expressed the view that 31mm prohibits anything but Slater's wheels, and even then there can be problems.

I had to make a similar decision when I started my layout, and opted for 31.5mm.

Back to RB. I've got a heljan Hymek coming soon. I'm going to detail it with new buffer details and any other bits I can get, I'm thinking of doing D7055 as she had snow ploughs fitted early in 1963.

I have standardised my stock on either Slater's fine scale wheel sets or AGH castings which I turn and profile using a form tool supplied by Alan.

On the small amount of 31mm track I have test built no problems have so far arisen. A King, 14xx and four wheeled van with Slater's wheels, a 28xx and 54xx with AGH wheels have been used as test vehicles.

The track comprises a C8LH turnout adjoining a 1 in 8 single compound, the whole being curved around an approximate 22 metre curve.

Regards

Rob
