Just a quick update to bring you the latest news from Bleddfa Road, and to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Iain Robinson kindly took a series of photos for me of a pressed steel troughing bridge close to where he once lived. I used them together with info. in 'Bridges for Modellers' by LV Woods to model the bridge for my old 4mm scale Llangunllo layout.
So it made perfect sense to model the same type of bridge in 7mm scale seeing as I had all the information to hand.
I made a start by modelling the abutments from thin fibreboard, which were then covered in DAS clay. the stonework being carved into the surface once dry.
Here we have the abutments in place, the bridge girders and deck are being built in situ from 40 thou styrene sheet. The first of the four pilasters was being test fitted, and 7719 was checking the new track for any tight spots through the new road crossing, the latter will be ungated and equipped with cattle grids. Earlier today card formers for the river banks were fitted, and I'm hoping to apply some plaster bandage over them by Christmas.
That's all folks.
Shortly after my last update I started to dismantle the layout and came close to walking away from the hobby. My wife who takes a keen interest in my modelling persuaded me to think again, suggesting that I modelled the river as planned. So after taking a break from modelling I decided to press on and model the bridge over the River Lugg. However, I decided to incorporate it into the actual layout instead of building a diorama as originally planned. I've lost count of the number of times that my old baseboard frames have been modified, and now one of them was about to be butchered again.
