Warren, thanks for posting these. I cannot claim anything other than having supplied a kit of parts to Bryan Jones and then passing to you for painting and photography!
The three 50' LNWR arc roof carriages are recent (re)-introductions to the Gladiator range. They are the D268 Corridor Third, D138 Corridor First/Third Composite and the D377 Passenger Brake. They are ex-Northstar products designed by Adrian Rowland. I think there was a limited release of them by Adrian, and Geoff Stratford released the passenger brake, but not the other two.
They will now be joined by another, the D216 Centre Brake Composite, which is currently with Warren for painting.
In a gratuitous plug I will point out that all will be available at Telford!

Some more progress last night: brake gear assembly, but no photos for now. As expected, no problems. Next up is the fitting of the vacuum drip trap casting. It must have taken me 30 minutes to work out where it fits. The kit provides for both early and late tender frames: the fitting is shown on the early version drawing. As I am building the late version I hadn't been looking there. Stupid Boy!
Still no vacuum drip , but I did manage a test fit of the brake gear tonight. I have been a naughty boy and sprung the frames to release the wheels. I want to be able to spray the inside of the frames with the wheels out. the brakes will be made removable, but I now know where things will fit.
I'm enjoying this.

Ah just discovered the updated instructions on the Finney 7 site. Should have looked sooner. Seems I may have the scoop shield plate in the wrong place. Shouldn’t be too hard to amend.
May also have the front pull rods upside down. Could have sworn they were as Martin’s drawing.....

I moved the 47XX build to a new thread in the WR section, but work on that has stalled for a while. The reason? I have been putting together the proving etches for a new Gladiator product, the LNWR/LMS/BR Coal Engine. This is being designed by Adrian Rowland (Northstar) and joins his designs for the Coal Tank and SDX. The build went together extremely well. I have just a couple of suggestions for modifications for the production etches. Here is where the build got to. I have decided that there is no point in fitting the castings, handrails etc. The tender is the standrad Webb 1800 gallon that already goes with the SDX. Hopefully we will be able to launch this early next year.

Had loads of pictures of C5's from the customer: as far as I can see from the photos all tenders have the curly U fire iron bracket in GCR days. I am guessing that the change to the cruciform type was an LNER mod.
If only I could find some photos or drawings of the water filler area: the offset ought to be modelled if it was there at the beginning.

Hi David,
The more I look at period photos of the D11s, the more I'm thinking that you may be correct regarding the fire iron bracket.The cruciform version just seems such an archaic fitting to have been put on by the LNER.

With the 47XX packed away ready for its flight to UK in two weeks, it was time to clean the workbench.
So ready for the next jobs: first an S15 then the second test build of the forthcoming Gladiator/Northstar Coal Engine. Having built a King Arthur from the same stable, I am not expecting any issues with the S15. Similarly there are only small changes to the Coal engine which will, hopefully, have turned an acceptable kit into a good one.
The eagle eyed will have noted a UK style plug on the soldering iron: that's because the landlord was good enough to put in a 220V supply as well as the standard 110V. I just have to be careful not to get things in the wrong socket. I was thinking about getting another LED light like the one on the left but as I will be coming home in 4 months it doesn't seem worth it.
The 3 in 1 is just for cleaning rusty surfaces............

The first job was to construct a new rear tank panel: I knew it was missing from the kit which is why I chose this one! Somewhere in the universe is a Gladiator S15 kit with two rear tank etches. I had taken a photocopy of what was required and used that as a template. After that, things just seemed to fall together in a pleasant manner.
why is it that solder shows up more on a photo than in the flesh?

I am always amazed how big these tenders are, when you look at most LSWR locos.
Nearly there with the tender. I had hoped it might have been done before I jump on the big white budgie tonight, but not to be.
Main parts left are the pull rods, replace the tanks on the top with some better castings and detail that area, add vac and steam pipes and sandpipes. But these tasks will have to wait until after Kettering.
