Have you tried Hegob? www.hegob.de Mostly wagon frame parts, but some loco stuff. Kiss and KM1 sometimes have some parts in their warehouses for repairs.

I keep seeing Marklin Spur 1 models up quite cheaply on the bay of e, I always thought Marklin were good? Having said that the frames on the Br.78 are not exactly finescale LOL but their V200.1 and V160 look nice and the MBW V200 also looks promising. https://www.flickr.com/photos/68463452@N06/17190910771

Funny you should mention the 78, as I have one of the Marklin 'toy' ones. Of course the Kiss one is superior, but I reckon with a judicious bit of detailing, the Marklin version will give a good account of itself. In particular, the ridiculous front buffer plank has to go, and if I replace the buffer beam fittings front and rear with quality brass ones, and give it a proper weathering it will fool most people. especially pootling round the garden with a couple of 6 wheelers and a bogie coach < dream mode on >.
Quite frankly, just painting the wheel centres and tyres red lifts the whole model.
And the clincher.... mine cost £380 (that's for the digital one!). The Kiss one is £2,000.

Richard, that looks just fine to me, especially in the garden where a derailment of a KISS one would probably result in hospitalization from a broken heart.
Second hand they do go quite cheaply especially when compared to some O gauge stuff and I've even seen new for just over £450.
One of those and a 38 with wannentender and enclosed cab will do me fine to start with and at that price its not too scary when you get the scalpel out
I'd love to trim the wheel rims a bit and the frames at the rear over to bogie could do with some better shaped overlays.
Now that the W1 etches are away being processed I have about a week to indulge my Spur1 and MP15DC interests

Richard, is your 78 the older or newer model? I thought of suggesting a new motor with lower current demand until I saw the price! 245 Euro is a lot for a new motor in a model costing less than £400. I totally agree that with some good weathering and a little kit bashing the older gauge 1 Marklin models are too good to miss.

I think it is a newer model - cat ref 5507, which isn't on the list (if I'm reading it right) of motors needing replacement. That's a lot of money for the replacement. I think I'd take the wheel off and fit a Crailcrest at just over 1/2 the price!. Mind you, I have nowhere to run it as yet so I don't know how well it performs. Come to that, I don't even know what the spec is as I can't find a manual to match my reference. It says 'digital' but I don't know what that means in Marklin terms or even whether it is sound fitted.

Hi Richard, yes, 5507 is the newer model. I can only suggest the Marklin store in Göppingen, who helped you with your BR44 cylinders for a copy of the original instruction book. I see they do publish a full parts list for your loco. My German isn't the best, but searching German Spur 1 forums can be very rewarding when looking to see how others have upgraded their older Marklin models. Marklin digital should mean compatible with Motorola and NMRA DCC systems and you should have sound, but of what quality only a test run will determine.

Just watched a Br.38 go for £200 and something, looks like an older model but as you say, probably easier to whip out the old motor and fit new and chip yourself.

Since my box is marked '5707 Digital', I presume it is the model referenced in the short paragraph 2 above. Roger is coming over early tomorrow (pre Heyside German fix) with his, ahem, portable layout, so we shall try it out then.

Hi,
A little bit of modelling over the last couple of days - principally to get the bits off my workbench to clear it for some Heyside painting duties.
One of the missing bits on my BR44 was the rear tender steps. They are very prominent and had to be replaced. A look at the Marklin spares list revealed that you could only get the right hand step, not the left, and since they are mirror images and not identical, that was a bit of a problem. A quick shift into bodger mode, and I realised I could could adapt a second right step to make a left, but that the resultant step (well, both if truth be told) would be far too weak to stand up to any handling. I therefore bent some brass strip to be glued to the stiles to reinforce.
Here are the bits...The top sections are switched from right to left, and the brackets reinstated from plasticicard.
and here is the finished item, awaiting blackening and painting.
Another little job off the list.
