I was asked to do a video for last weekend's 'virtual exhibition ' so I did another rc conversion especially for it. This shows just about the whole process in one go, for those who are interested. I don't think I'll post any more of these, unless there is something very specific of interest - as it's just repetition if I do..

I'm aware of someone in Germany making ridiculously small vehicles - and a chapnwith the handle 'Otherplanet' has converted a 4mm Scarab to RC, son in theory it's possible. The receiver can't be shrunk, one would do away with the servo, and use an Actuator instead, which is much smaller and less powerful. A very small battery...... finding a small enough motor gearbox combination would be a challenge......

Have you thought about using the motor which makes mobile phones vibrate ? Steve one of our club members has used one to power a 4mm WW1 petrol simplex, I don't know what gears he used.

Bless you all - it was a hit of a tight fit - but of course there are some amazing people who managed to do even smaller stuff!
The challenge I took on was the front axle, as I have a now tried and tested technique for axles which will work for 4mm lorries and anything larger, but not for something as small and narrow as a Land rover, so it was back to the drawing board. It proved relatively straightforward, and 'car's axles are viable. I have even looked at axles this size incorporating rack and quadrant steering (useful for when the servo has to be set back)

Yes, those are extraordinary - lovely castings..... i doubt i coukd see even with my magnifier to assemble one of those! A wonderful development, but I prefer a slightly more genteel motion personally - each to his own - but quite remarkable!

I managed to pick up one of these in 1:43 from Ebay. It's in for the usual treatment, which entails a new mast (telescopic) and forks.

It's a resin model, except for the mast that I can't use, and the front tyres.

The rear wheels and tyres are also resin - so they needed to be turned down 1mm off the radius and have 1mm neoprene superglued on, so they grip!

When I started this, I thought 'loads of room....' so I slung in the rear axle and servo... I now wish I'd gained a new mm and put the servo to the rear, but never mind.

I've now got the drive sorted, and fitted one of the diffs I made some time ago, as this will need to be agile with its short wheelbase etc.. I was planning on using a different motor and gear combo, but I couldn't fit the motor in transversely between the chassis. This is simpler in many ways, but takes up valuable battery space. The smaller motor for the last tilt is on the centre-line.

Mechanically complete now. The transmission works, the mast tilts, and the second stage of the mast and forks rise and fall as they should.......

It's all loose wires and nothing done with the electrics yet though!
