Have just googled Rosebay Willowherb images. A disturbing amount of Rosebay w herb fairies appeared- which I was not planning to incorporate! Was pleased to find a reassuring shot of Rosebay willow herb ,with steam locos behind, at East Somerset Railway, without said non preferred standard pink winged creatures. Have printed out suitable plant close up & will use.

Ahh... 'money where your mouth is' time..??

Certainly a good way for fellow Thunderists to be a small part of this wonderful layout!
We'd need some dimensions to work within, and the general idea of what is required for each room....

Hi Jordan

As Teal'c would say (deep voice) 'indeed'.

My current thinking, taking the sloping terrace next to the bank as an example: I shall either take the roof off (at which stage I can look at drainage :)) or take the back off which I think is the easier option. There are no floors or walls at all as far as I can see, so I propose building partitions between the houses and having separate trays for the ground floor and first floor rooms that will slide in from the back. Just the rooms at the front of the house in this example.

I shall then be able to give a dimension for w x d x h for each box tray, state where the windows are and you (or anyone else) can opt for doing a bedroom, a ground floor, a house, whatever. A couple have shop frontages, so there is more scope in those, but it's as little or as much as one wants to do.

I couldn't possibly comment, nor could I comment on the resemblance of any of our team to the Warmington on Sea branch of Dad's Army, least of all our C in C !

p.s. I should also report that as well as making the tea, Richard's missus Linda keeps our army morale up by feeding us with the best grub, unlike that undernourished Warmington on Sea lot!

Afternoon tea & cake is also provided later. Now you lot are getting really jealous!

My better half Kathy & I saw plenty of Rose bay Willow herb around 5 feet high near Midland Railway Centre, Butterley on Sunday. Kathy informs me that the yellow weed seen there that I modelled is Ragwort, a plant that her dad, who farmed land at Stretton next to the Ashover Light & MR stations. He pulled up the Ragwort as it is apparently poisonous to cattle & horses.
Heyside Clive asked me to research directions of motion on the Standard 5 Caprotti loco that was in steam & great to ride behind at Butterley yesterday. For his loco ,that we hope will appear at Heyside in due course, & anyone else interested & unsure, caprotti motion is-
from cab facing front of loco-
Left hand side motion
rotates clockwise as loco goes forwards
rotates anticlockwise when loco goes backwards

Right hand side motion
rotates anticlockwise as loco goes forwards
rotates clockwise when loco goes backwards.
Now all Clive has to do is build it!

Great shots Tony. (Was on holiday in Lake District so missed our Thurs eve running session.)
All those locos should look super at our next exhibition. The warehouse photo is full of atmosphere too.
Well done for brilliant loco weathering too.

Chaps,

Hope you don't mind me joining in this thread, I'm finding Heyside totally inspirational to my own humble efforts and have been following it for a few months now. Been thinking of investing in a Finescale B1, it's a fair old wad of cash so was wondering if it comes recommended, 61008 looks superb.

Cheers

Hi John

Glad you're enjoying the thread.

I reckon the B1 is among the best of the Finescale Brass locos - there's very little wrong with it, though I believe as it comes, it can only portray the first few locos - Tony can elaborate on that. We have 2 available at the moment for Heyside, and they are both cracking locos. They run superbly out of the box too. It's really a tribute to FS Brass that they sit so well with the other kit-built locos.

Tony's is the one that caught your eye above, here's the other (Tim's)

Thanks Richard,
Can't say fairer than that for a review, I guess it's off to find the credit card now !

The Finscale B1 is pretty good John, there are a few minor points for the picky like me:-
Tender only suitable for the first 10 or so I believe.
Cabside step is wrong - can be replaced if you don't mind taking things apart, the later ones might be different.
No rear sanders on the first 10 locos, so take 'em off.
Front lamp irons need changing for plain ones.
I changed the return crank screw for a grub one
Replaced the crankpins with 2mm studding and CPL crankpin nuts
Filled any visible screw heads.
Its easy enough to put the loco in forward gear.
The loco was lined and numbered by Paul Moore, then weathered by me...

Regards

Tony

Hi

I had some flak last week from certain quarters for not taking a photo of Heyside's new Jubilee....

Wot, no Jubilee

P1010589jub2.JPG

Built by Clive from a detailed Chowbent kit, equipped with sound, and a quite magnificent runner, it will be heavily weathered before entering service.

Fantastic - it makes me want to have a go at mine.....

More later....
