The loco is now back home, having been collected at Scalefour Crewe on Saturday. It has been painted, lined and weathered by my friend David Clarke, based on a photo of a sister loco taken at Lees Shed, Oldham, in the mid 1950s.
Jobs still to do include the large diameter buffer heads, cab glazing, inserting the cab inside detail and adding some real coal to the moulded version in the bunker.

The 18" buffer heads, described earlier, have been fitted. I suppose that I should really change the BR Standard buffers to be the same.
The cab interior has been temporarily fitted and real coal added on top of the plastic moulding.
I had hoped to cut down the Bachmann glazing inserts and re-use. However, the side windows are rippled and for the spectacles, there are three LH and only one RH. Not sure how the factory managed to fit them. Anyway, it means new windows will have to be cut from suitable sheet material with the attendant difficulty of getting a good, tight fit in the openings. Grrrr.

The Bachmann body is very accurate, dimensionally, if somewhat lacking and crude in some details. I built a BR Standard version of the 4 mm DJH kit and found the cab to be too short, particularly the width of the door opening. My solution was to split the etch and stretch to door to make the cab length correct. This did mean the door opening is now too wide rather than narrow and a replacement roof was required.
Thanks Dave, yes I'll be using canopy glue but still have to get the windows something like to hold in place whilst the glue sets. With etched cabs, I usually cheat by simply fixing the glazing to the inside surface, so the actual size and shape isn't too critical but that's not possible here.
