A D.I.Y. joke - you need to work it out for yourself! This is a genuine advert in a dog "salon" in Kirkham, it always brings a smile to my face as I cycle past to work, forever thinking how good it was they chose a Springer Spaniel for their advert.

This morning I learnt, I have been Passed Out as a Driver. I can now drive public passenger trains with battery electric traction on the raised track at the local miniature railway.

Upon receiving this news, I had a few seconds of personal pride and satisfaction. Then the club wag announced, "to be honest, everyone passes"

Many years ago, I had the pleasure and privilege of driving a brand new 5 litre Mercedes G-wagen down the Shloeckl mountain with a Magna Steyr senior test driver in the passenger seat, and a couple of colleagues in the back. We're talking £100k plus car, and serious off road - to the extent of using all three diff locks at one point.

I arrived in the car park at the bottom, quite pleased with the experience, and even more so, when the test driver said "Oh Herr Dobson, you have a very good understanding of the vehicle, and of driving off road on challenging terrain, very well driven...", and the rug was then swept from under my feet when he paused and added "...but far too slow."
