In my post #1184 I included a picture of packets of windows laid out ready to go in the cottages. These were cut in ply which can be very fragile in items like glazing bars. Subsequently I have come across a material called Polybak which laser cuts very easily It is intended for laser cutting) and is extremely strong even when most of it has been cut away such as in items like windows. I haven't tried hand cutting it but I suggest it's worth investigating for such uses.

Would an assumption that 'this material is an excellent alternative to card for cutting by knife where a laser is not part of the toolbox' be a reasonable one to make?

Yes, John gave me a sample and it cuts easily with a Stanley knife or scalpel, the material is much denser than ordinary thin card.

For reference @John Duffy has already posted some rather tasty modelling using laser board - John’s Workbench

From his inspiration I'm halfway through trying experimenting with something similar - setting up my laser cutter with a laser crosshair pointer so I can etch planks in the plywood front and rear (inside and outside), etched chassis from Ragstone. I will post updates when I have some thing to show but so far laserboard/polybak results look very encouraging.

For reference I sourced mine from Hobarts - offering a range of colours and thicknesses.

This week at Love Lane the crew continue with the alterations.

The repacement baseboard for the urban scene is now complete.

And finally Granddad came to from his drunken stupor and has managed to hold himself up off the floor by leaning on the doorframe but is now trying to chat up the Vicars daughter who's not impressed !

The layout seems well named as it appears to be giving birth to more baseboards and is ever growing.
We've now replaced nearly all of the mdf built boards ( not of our making originally) with ply, the main board with most of the station built on it is still an original and would be a real upheaval to replace, but so far it's not caused any problems so we have left it well alone.
The layout as a whole was only extended by 6'-0" in length.

This week at Love Lane the new base board was finally fitted for alignment and holes drilled for the bolts and bullets that hold the boards together.
Now trackwork can started.

IMG_0483.JPG

The permanent way crew are still on it with more sleepers laid in the goods yard.

IMG_0481.JPG

IMG_0486.JPG

Apart from that not much else to show at present so how about some gratuitous shots of the rolling stock on the storage roads.:D

IMG_0482.JPG

IMG_0484.JPG

IMG_0485.JPG

The Station Master has finally had enough of the drunk harassing passengers outside 'his' station and along with the Vicar and his daughter, who he has asked to excuse his 'French', told Granddad to "bugger off 'ome boy"( Essex speak :D) before he calls the Rozzers and led him to his car ! Yes I know but this is the fifties and drink driving wasn't so much frowned on then.

This week at Love Lane not much change, just continuation of work from the previous week so nothing new as such to show.
So I photographed some of the stock at random as we all like pictures of stuff :D a few of WT's members will recognise their own work.

First up a Metropolitan E class 0-4-4 tank awaiting paint. I wonder if it'll get mullered like the Panniers ? :D
IMG_0504.JPG

The G5 0-4-4t that works the pull-push. Connoisseur kit.

IMG_0505.JPG

...and the other end of it. I believe these are D&S kits. This set works the branch service that terminates at Love Lane but the branch does see an E4 with ex GER corridor stock also.

Departmental coach, ex GER. D&S kit.
IMG_0511.JPG

6 wheeled ex GER brake third again part of the departmental stock. D&S ?
IMG_0514.JPG

Tank wagon, not sure which kit this is from ?
IMG_0513.JPG

BR 20 ton Brake van although judging by the handrails this is ex. LNER. built from a Slaters kit.
IMG_0515.JPG

And finally Granddad drove off home albeit on the wrong side of the road ! ...don't try this at home kids :D

The crew at Love Lane had plenty to get on with this week.........

Track laying continues in the goods yard.

IMG_0530.JPG

IMG_0531.JPG

IMG_0533.JPG

And at the south end of the station.

IMG_0528.JPG

Feather edge boarding now complete on the granary but more work to do.

IMG_0526.JPG

Roof tiling on the goods shed and cottages continues.

IMG_0529.JPG

IMG_0532.JPG

After the debacle with granddad the vicars' daughter consoles herself by looking at the up coming coach excursions advertised in the newsagents shop window, getting dark early now !, and looking at the shop blind there's a bit of a breeze blowing up.

Work continues at Love Lane with the start of track laying on the replacement baseboard.
Platform and mock-up of the cutting walls in place.

IMG_0555.JPG

IMG_0554.JPG

At the other end of the layout works is also continuing in the coal yard with 3D printed GER chairs and buffer stops.

IMG_0563.JPG

IMG_0562.JPG

Sleeper staining on the goods yard.

IMG_0560.JPG

A week later Granddad is stone cold sober and Grandmother sent him back to apologize to the Station Master who bluntly told him that it was the Vicar's daughter that he should be apologising to !

IMG_0561.JPG

Meanwhile whilst waiting for the next service to Cambridge it looks like both the Army and Navy boys are off on leave and the 'Jack Tar' is trying hard to chat up a pretty blonde ! But she "aint 'aving nuffin' to do wiv 'im" as they say in Essex .

IMG_0557.JPG

I expect the chippy's will be back next week to lower the bench seat ! :D
