I'm happy with the art work, 3D and etch, the etches will sit and mature over the weekend before sending off to the etchers on Monday; I've revised some sections and removed the extras on the sheet from previous renditions/experiments.

The test roof worked well but there's room for some small improvements (there always is) I think, the problem with 3D printers is that they're not replicators; tea 'earl grey' isn't always earl grey  I've retained the anchor block as it's handy to grab hold of when test spraying.

I think in reality this about as far as the technology can cope with at present, the strive for injection moulded accuracy, consistency and smoothness is perhaps a step or two too far.

It'll be interesting to see how the recent second machine copes/compares to the older one with a roof section.

is it not possible to 3d print the brake shoes for the wc or mn or would they be to delicate Mick
Yes you can, but you'd need new etched arms, extracting the arms from the shoes on the Finney kit is, will be.........bleedin hard work

I have considered several time as for some reason, the kit ones never line up well on all the ones I've built, you end up bending and twisting the arms to make the shoes sort of line up, perhaps I'm doing something wrong :))

A decent set of scissor arms each side of the middle axle would be handy, the front and rear arms are fine.

on my w/c I cut the shoes off and modified some slaters sets, when painted you can't really tell[the 6 ft rule applies]

With my dual hat on......

Some one asked the other day about a Finney7 B1 update elsewhere so I'll go out on a limb and give one.

The why's wherefores and the such like in the past, remain in the past and serve no purpose going forward.

For the record, the etches are pretty much done, they await the return of the castings and final test build to see if any tweaks are needed. Having said that, nigh on 30 commercial builds has changed my views on certain aspects, so some revisions will be incorporated from that experience at the same time.

The white metal castings have been done and are working their way through the system back here. The brass castings are in progress and to be honest, the quality of printing for masters is now at a stage that satisfies our criteria.

Once they have all (130+) been printed they will go (in house) to be prepped for casting, basically cleaning up, making good and sealed in a coat of paint; that's for someone with a steadier hand and younger eyes than I. They will not go for casting until the 94xx is in production and closer to release, therefore there is no date for release and none will be given. Working to deadlines causes stress no one needs and runs the risk of short cuts and depreciated quality.

The best I can give now is a view of some of the raw brass masters, grey on grey is not some coy commercial trick, it's just that they cannot be sprayed in my usual red oxide to lift the details. It also means they will exhibit artifacts and areas that need attention, so you'll have to look past that I'm afraid; you'll also have to forgive the poor phone photo quality and lack of depth of field.

All items are also subject to change if we feel the need to.

Feel free to ask questions but on the proviso there will be some I can't/won't answer for many reasons.

Well last week was a write off on the bench but this week we're back at it, a quick change over to a JLTRT Crab and then back to the Bulleid. I'd been warned this kit can be a bit of a hand full and they were not speaking untruths, this'll be my 5th Fowler 3500g tender from three different designers and I'm wondering how many ways you can design something so simple, so differently.

Like the other two brands, this one has some faults, more niggles really (there are no guard irons for example or only one of a pair of brackets, yet elsewhere there are four of something you only need two of) because what does fit, fits really well. I'd hoped to be finished today but the kit has zero instructions for the tender, I know of two other builders and their kits also had no instructions; it seems a common trait with these kits.

There's a handful of new 3D, axle boxes and springs (just hung on the spigots for photos), brake shoes and tank vents.

Hope fully tomorrow it'll all be (virtually) done and then it's back to the Bulleid body to finish that one off before I get back to this.

I can't help but think you've hit the sweet spot with the tender on matching materials to use, making the most of the benefits each has. Strength and thin sections for the metal and intricate shapes for 3d printing.

Okay, some clarity needed here, folks are mistaking the JLTRT plastic inner as my work, it’s not, all credit goes to JLTRT.

The only 3D present so far are the axle boxes and springs

It does however raise the question for me, can I copy this concepr for future builds, especially for older kits which lack detail and finesse or maybe missing parts.

Got to be the way forward Mick.
