I've been busy lately with a few new designs and perfecting the manufacturing process. So far it looks like machining from solid is definitely the way to go as its the only way to achieve really fine spokes in cast iron. I've also finalised a design for insulation offering both fixed and telescopic axles. Good to catch up with you too Steph. May's going to be a busy month hopefully, will be starting small to begin with as I can't really afford to go silly with a lot of stock, what I might have to do is take initial orders on what I've currently designed and then offset the rest of the cost against that, at least it means I'm not spending £1000's and having to wait months to move it all. I'm also currently looking for my own machine which will make life so much easier so I can keep production in house and "to order".

And as a result of my discussion with Elliot I have secured the first set of Adams Radial wheels and I am about to order a kit so that I may pursue the path of true light that is the LSWR.

And in such chaos the authorative voice is always correct. "No Mr Rivet-Counta, you are plain wrong as my knowledge is superior to yours". Far easier to speak with a loud voice than abide by the legendary Swindon Standard.

There'll be plenty of wheels to go round as I'm hoping to be ordering them in batches of 10 loco's worth at a time so the more pre-orders for that particular loco I get the better, that is of course I can get a price which is palatable for people.

Ultimately these will be the best wheels on the market by a country mile (no offence to any other manufacturers naturally) and will be priced accordingly but my mark up will be an absolute minimum as its more to do with getting something decent out there for a change rather than earning a living from it.

I've currently got a set of Britannia wheels going through the design process and the 5'-8" Drivers for an LNER K4 so I'm trying to keep everyone happy but if there's anything you guys specifically want if you can get the drawings I'm sure I can accommodate you as with this process I can do 1-offs.

Once I go live with available wheels, axles and prices I'll post a list on here. I'm aiming to try and keep in line with most kit makers so I can introduce new wheels as required and obviously, bit by bit populate the available wheels as time goes on.

Once I have my new cnc machine then everything will be done to order on a first come first served basis, that way I don't have to worry about stock, just how many hours I'll be baby sitting a milling machine! lol

Silly question, and I do hate to ask as they look very nice.

If they're milled from a blank how do profile the spoke section to the rear? I'm guessing by flipping it over and ensuring its exactly in the right position or they're simply not and the rear profile is flat like Slaters wheels.

The King class driver does look like there is some profiling to the spokes on the rear but it's hard to tell, in honesty it doesn't matter as the front view is super, just mild curiosity that's all.

If you look further back in this thread you'll come across the Duchess wheel I've done which IS machined from both sides. I did this as an exercise to see how it came out.

The basic plan is to offer two types of wheel. The standard one sided wheel like you see above and a double sided wheel for those who want absolute perfection. Naturally the double sided wheel will be almost twice the price as there's twice as much machine time, but when making perfection then only perfection will do.

I missed that bit :rolleyes:, I thought the Princess Coronation wheels were cast hence the rear profiled spokes, not machined.

Interesting approach.

Purely for the record, please offer us all side-by-side comparison of (the rear face of) "perfection" and "standard".

When I've got both sorts of the same wheel I will but the double sided one is strictly order only and not bloody cheap! lol
