Ians,

All clouds (and cats*) are grey. There is no black and white. ;)

*Obscure lyrical/song title reference, and the real reason for making is post!

I would further more ask you if you don't have anything constructive to say PLEASE don't say it

Calm down chaps. I have to say that the whole topic of peak performance has added bugger all to the thread TBH so in that regard bringing it up in the first place could hardly be considered constructive.

There will be 4 peaks on the layout because they were arround at the time and i like them. End of!

Cheers

It was a throw-away comment of mine to one of Jim's photos that mentioned Peaks and speed....
As Jim has very effectively drawn a line under the issue, can we now settle down again and pay attention to him.

Note:- we do not want happening over here, what Jim decided to do to his corresponding thread Over There..... even if he hasn't managed to give up the habit altogether ;)

What a terrible name...  :))... looks to be very apt, though.....

You think that's bad? The full name of Mike Clark's range is 'Masokits Masterbits'. The postal address (and the street really does exist, it isn't an alias) is on 'Crotch Crescent' somewhere near Oxford. I guess if you live on a street with a name like that you might as well... sorry, all the endings for that sentence that have gone through my head sound well, perhaps a little grubby.

I think Masokits is very apt. Chosen because his original kits were so exceptionally fiddly to make, you had to be a masochist to enjoy them.

Hi Jim,

I never tire of looking at the images of your work - genius...

Does anyone remember a feature in Model Railway Constructor around 77-78 (ish) that had an article about a chap who built BNS in his garden? In 4mm IIRC with lots of DMU's in blue so modern for the period?

Sorry for the (minor) hijack Jim... ...just wish I'd kept the mag...

Hi Stu

I didnt see that mag (id have been 3-4 years old!) but the other New Street was by a chap called Don Jones. He used to hold open days in aid of charity and I did see it once. Sadly he died a few years ago and the layout was dismantled.

Cheers

The platforms look fab, but I suspect the hardest part is yet to come, that of filling them with passengers. My abiding memories of New Street being how busy and congested with fellow passengers it is. I'm sure that it has its quiet moments but I always seem to miss them.

A.k.a. "Don's Miniature New Street" built by the late Don Jones in Sutton Coldfield. Since his death it's now been dismantled. It was pretty crude close up, even by the standards of the day, but was impressive for sheer size, and how on earth he ran it in Pre-DCC days  the wiring must've been something only a GPO Telephones Engineer could cope with..!!

I would have thought that it would have been something akin to the real thing except more intense as there would be less people to do what alot of people do today, BADLY:headbang:

Hi all

With a small hint of regret it's clear that WT and I are best parting ways. I usually stick with forums hoping they will grow into something I feel at home with but I don't feel that's the case with western thunder. It's clearly changed direction recently and I feel it more of a chore than a pleasure to be here so with that in mind I am going to take my leave.

If anyone would like to keep in touch with what I am up to you would be more than welcome to sign up to my workbench
http://www.p4newstreet.com/category/workbench

I wish the membership and team behind WT all the best and would like to thank all those who have followed what I have been up to and have provided comments and feedback.

That's a real shame. :(

I've been following progress of New Street for some time, and I was pleased to see you were a member here.

I don't think accounts are ever closed unless specifically requested of an administrator, so perhaps we may see you come back and update us in the future. It would be nice to think that would be the case, anyway.
