I'm sure that even in the busiest of households, there will be that dull point following Lizzie's broadcast, and when the offerings of TV neither entertain nor inspire, and it's still a while til the next belt-busting that a "get on line and talk nonsense" session would be most welcome!

LSWR cottages get raised

Attention turning today to the LSWR cottage that goes opposite the signal box and forms a bit of a view blocker to the left hand fiddle exit.

Two decisions probably made in haste but I'm going with them regardless...

1. To raise the base height of the cottage as it seemed to be dwarfed by the signal box and provender store. 20ish mm seemed to be about right.
2. To build the surrounding garden and path off-layout as an integral part of the cottage. I decided that trying to make it insitu was going to be difficult.

So, cottage base increased and, whilst the black paint around the lower section dried, the 'garden' marked up.

Also, whilst chatting to SheepBloke yesterday on the phone, I found the windows previously made...

Not sure why I didn't make the 5th one for the side though.

Lots of mucking around with levels, heights and bits of plasticard later...

Ended up dropping the path around the front corner of the house and putting some steps in. The wall in front of the house will have a drainage ditch between it and the road. DAS stone clay applied to the wall for carving later.

The difference there between Before and After really is nothing short of remarkable.
There is nothing particularly wrong with the first scene ; well, that is until you see the After shot!

Thanks chap, much appreciated.

The cottage has been bugging me for a while. I wasn't sure why but the juxtaposition* of the provender store and cottage didn't seem right. I had toyed with removing the store but decided that wasn't the right answer.

The cottage being a scale 4'6" higher up has helped with the road drainage too. The ditch I am putting in now won't be higher than the cottage doorstep - that would be bad. Also, no wall required between the cottage and the double acting signal. Sorted.
