Hi Rob,

getting there slowly, but getting there.

The Rocket by the way is fully working and from a kit    and the boiler barrel is more or less a sheath around the motor casing.

I must admit that from the photo's I wondered if the Duchess was pushing rocket. It's nice to know that it runs under it's own power, I could quite fancy doing something similar, but life's too short given the ever growing pile ;)

knowing the quality of Geoff Holt's work, it would not surprise me if the Rocket did push the Duchess

Just a thought Mike did you have any problems with the fit on the resin-smokebox/boiler/firebox to cab etch .i painted/lined and weathered two earlier on in the year and there was a fair bit of filling done on both !!!.

Hi Fred,

thanks for the encouragement. The DJB kits certainly look good at the end of theday, but it seems that you have to go through a Jim Harris/DJH/Ace/Acme learning curve before you even open the box - thats why I'm looking forward to doing another MOK Q1 - fiddly but totally buildable and no builder adjustments needed and very good instructions and descriptive pictures of the contents including the castings.

Hi Fred,

by all means do.

Thinking further about the boiler/firebox/cab fit, I did take my time in 'squaring off' the back of the resin casting and this may be where your builder slipped up, it looked square but wasn't.

Hi Fred,

excellent is the only word. You seem to have finished it in the way that I was thinking of doing mine - working dirt on the chassis and 'oiled clean' on the body - did you add some gloss black to satin varnish to achieve this?

Was working on the backhead yesterday and I only hope that I can conjure up the knowledge of how you put a ship in a bottle to get the thing in. I usually paint and detail the backhead out of the loco anyway, but there is so much to leave out to give you any chance of putting the backhead in, plus the glazing has to go in first. We shall see!

Mike sorry to disapoint u but i had not weathered it at that point just blackened the. rods to except the weathering coulor.I never add black or any other coulor to the varnish, as they are all finnished x works before weathering commences, as i said Mike its not the best of pics and poor light.

thanks guys, I hope that it gets similar comments from Auntie & Uncle when I present it to them two weeks from now.

I'll take some more photos over the weekend, once I've done the last remaining bits.

I'm then going to make my fume extract system before Christmas so that I can start the MOK Q1 straight away in the new year.

regards

Mike
