Hi Mike you have done a great kit there  Looks like another kit (or kits) to buy at Reading :)

Len

Hi Len,

many thanks for your comment, wish I could just get to Reading, let alone buy anything:thumbs:

Would it be possible to buy the underframe gubbins from small suppliers rather than resorting to two kits ? :)

Hi Phill,

Once I have finished, I'll assess all of what I have used and see exactly what was used from the WEP kit and I'll let you know.

cheers

Thanks Guv, much appreciated.

Things were going so well today, the brake ratchets and handles folded up nicely, the buffer housings cleaned up well, I glued the buffer heads in after they too had been cleaned up

I found pairs of lost wax castings in the spares box to use instead of the whitemetal offerings for the steam and Vacuum pipes, so lunch was taken...........................followed by the fitting of the door catches - got to the last one and PING :headbang::headbang::headbang: - it's in the workshop - somewhere - and it has been joined by the second lamp iron bracket:headbang::headbang::headbang: so a call to Laurie @ JLTRT and he is putting replacements in the post:drool:

so that left the roof vents and the light switch, followed by a bit of careful filing of the chassis ends to allow the backs of the buffers and pipework to fit. There are a couple of socket boxes to fit to the solebar to the left of the lefthand V hanger on each side, then a temporary fitting of the couplings followed by a good run at the Club on Thursday. Then detatch the chassis from the body, a warm bath, blow dry and into the paintshops..............................

cheers

Hi Dan,

many thanks for your comment.

The light switch is one of the whitemetal castings from the WEP kit - nothing is provided in the NQLTRT kit, this despite the fact that theirs is one of the BR builds and I think that the light switch was introduced by BR:thumbs: I was tempted to cut the horizontal bar off and replace it with a couple of pieces of scrap etch, but I'm glad that I resisted the temptation.

I made one from plasticard, brass strip and thin wire. How did you find the roof vents?

Thanks Mike.

I have the NQLTRT kit to build and was somewhat miffed to discover the lighting switch wasn't included! :(

cr*p (I think that the moulds must have been the original ones from El Cr*ppo) - but used them all the same, I'll do a bit more cleaning up etc before I get into the paintshop.

That's looking very nice, I've also just worked out what some mystery bits on my etched sheet are having seen your door catches - thank you very much:thumbs:

Hi Simon,

glad you approve - I must admit, your 1/32 sized version is very tempting and a diorama could be on the cards - especially with a 121 bubble car - when are you bringing the kit out:thumbs:

As mentioned above, I'm surprised how much is missing from the JLTRT kit so I'm glad that I bought the two versions - I might end up with something like 99.9% of a model of the original.

I was going to replace them...... I dont understand how they can do such a nice moulding for the body and then produce vents like that

its an expensive proposition with the two kits, but there is no question that your underframe is a 100% improvement.

hopefully, the weathering to the roof will hide cover some of the faults and save their blushes - again.

In many ways, I'm only doing to a wagon kit what we have all been doing with loco kits for the past umpteen years - only now, we seem to accept that course of action as almost everyday - it's only when you get to building the likes of MOK kits:thumbs::thumbs::thumbs: that you realise just how much extra effort and materials are usually required do to produce a really good model from just what is in the box.

Nice work Mike, I have also found the Jltrt white metal castings a little disapointing. The brass underframe looks very tidy.

Hi Tony,

not quite the same as your 8F, but I'm enjoying it.

As I said earlier, it was very handy that JLTRT had formed a slight recess for their W iron casting to sit in, so it was a question of taking the 'plunge' with the Xacto saw to join up the two recesses by cutting through the ends of the underframe joists, trimming the etch to fit and away I went - and thankfully, it seems to have worked ok. I'm taking it to the Club this afternoon to see how it runs, it pushes along my 'plank' ok at speed, so it should be ok.

Hi Mike

Can we have pics of its first outing ?.

Steve

Hi Steve,

I'll try and remember to take the Fuji to the Club tomorrow night for a video - lets hope that the missing bits arrive from JLTRT so that they can be fitted before then.

meanwhile, a couple from today showing the couplings fitted and the socket box fitted adjacent to the V hanger - there is another one directly opposite .

Hi Dan,

I am building the WEP version at the moment and I am building the older version which has the gas lights, so if you want the lighting switch drop us a pm.

Martyn.
