Hi Rob,

I contacted Shawn and have now received a reply stating that he will be on the case after Telford. I have replied saying that there is a large interest for it on here.........keep at him at/after Telford.

cheers

Mike

a heads-up from Shawn last night to say that he will have a 'progrss to date' version of the Diag 1/552 Inspection Saloon DB999506/8&9 with him at Bristol next week, so release should not be too far away - Kettering? hopefully.

Mate, they are two glorious models in the second best colour scheme going ;) If it's the last thing I do I'll have one of them for myself and I'm even contemplating that colour :p:thumbs:

thanks guys, much appreciated.

No Rob, the Easybuild ones are the Swindon built BR Diagram 1/552 of 1962/3, these are LMS Diagram D2046 from the 1940s

Oh ok Mike, thanks for that. Do you have a pic of a Swindon built one?. I'm not really up on these saloons.

Rob:)

Hi Mike, I have just noticed that the LMS one doesn't have any lining - I had in mind the simple lining but no lining is even easier:thumbs::drool:

Hope this is not hijacking the thread, but...

Seeing that there seems to be a lot of inspection coach expertise here, can anyone help me with the identity of this vehicle? And maybe a kit source for the original coach bodyshell? (I'm thinking a good project for full DCC lighting).

Hi Colin,

this is the Inspection Saloon that you are asking about

http://www.flickr.com/photos/59375551@N08/5706970381/

it started life as a buffet car within one of the Class 203 6 coach Hastings diesel units. It took over from the Restriction 0 coach DS70155.

If you go into Flickr and search for the coach number or Inspection Saloon, you will find many more pictures.

Hope that this helps as a starter for ten

cheers

Hi Colin,

Peter Clark has done a kit for the Hastings units. They are not out yet but there are some pics on his site. Seeing as he has done the departmental 150 as well as the other variations in the kits it might be worth dropping him a line to see if he's got the inspection saloon planned?

Cheers

Thanks Mike!

It all makes sense now. I'd been thinking the vehicle looked a bit narrow, but I just assumed the picture had been squashed a bit.

A quick Google did indeed turn up masses of pics! (I'm not used to researching anything so recent. Modern stock seems to have loads of photos. A benefit of the digital age!).

Tom,

Thank you, I'll have a chat with Peter next time I see him at an exhibition. Depends how his kits are manufactured, but maybe he might be able to sell me just a single buffet coach.

I'm more than happy to do the conversion work. (In fact I tend to prefer that approach rather than starting with the correct kit).

I need to give this a bit of thought before I dive in though. It is outside of my usual modelling period, so i haven't got a suitable loco. If I do it, I'm going to have to build a DRS 37 as well! (hmmn? well, I can't think of an immediate reason not to...?)

Express models has produced a kit for caroline I have a few pics of this unit in nose

Yes please. I'd like to see more pics.

I could only find expressmodels.co.uk Not sure if that's the same company you mentioned? They didn't seem to do any rolling stock kits. Mostly lighting components, lamp posts etc.

Thanks for all your help guys,

Colin
