Have you had any issues with oil carryover ?
Zero,

But, if you look at closely at my moisture trap, it collects it all, mind there must be a very small carry over as my hose connector to the regulator has a miniscule leak and you can see the slight staining on the tank side.

Mind, some of that is also rust from moisture weeping but I've never noticed any at the gun or in the gun moisture trap (before I snapped it off  ).

Thanks JB, I might in the next couple of days, but I have now ordered a Bambi PT24 oil free compressor.

This one can deliver over 100lpm and shouldn't have any trouble powering a small spray gun.

As some of you will have seen I have been bitten by the US bug, it has been lurking in the background for a awful long time, I even started making some box cars back around 2002, but now I have finally given into it. The shed still has a bit of space for long thin layout so one day I may get round to building one.
In the meantime, I'm building my GP9 (details on the GP9 thread) but I am also looking at converting a number of other locos and freight cars to P48. I love tinkering with thing like this and the good thing is that they aren't too expensive if it all goes horribly wrong !

Jason on here sold me a Weaver GP 38 a few weeks back, so this is the next project. It is in UP livery so it will need a repaint into Southern Pacific red and grey, but before then there are quite a few mods to do. Converting it to P48 is relatively straight forward, you can simply buy some new wheel sets from Right O Way and put these in to replace the 2 rail ones this had. It turns out that the Weaver drive mechanism seems to be a favourite for converting other locos and a complete setup is available from PD Hobbies in the US.

There is quite a bit of work to do on the body but fortunately Southern Pacific leased a bunch of GP38s that were ex CSXT and these have the smaller fuel tank and no big cut out in the nose for lights ! That should make life a bit easier but the fan spacing is still wrong at the back. They didn't have the L cab window either.

These are the replacement wheel sets, the original model drives the front bogie from the rear with a big cardan shaft running the length of the loco that is very visible.
Not any more on this one, the front bogie won't be powered, the rear one will be more than enough for what I have in mind for this.

The other other thing I have done is to replace the gearbox drive tower with one from Finescale 360, this runs in ball bearings and is height adjustable so you can get the right tension on the chain. It also comes with a large bottom gear to reduce the gear ratio for better slow speed running. There is a new top gear too as the old one had a bit of wear on it.
Dunno. This yank models Brit, and US leaves me cold.

I have now added the rest of the decals

I don't know what happened to the S and the Ps a bit wonky too, I'll need to fix those.

It is better on the other side

It is starting to look the part. I now have a FMC 50' 6'' car to finish off that I acquired 2nd hand. It turns out that SP had quite of few of those with the 8 foot double doors.

I have a Sparmax 610 of some description, bought from a fellow WT'er and for the light use I give it, it is excellent

just realised I wrote this on Monday and must have missed hitting the “post reply” button. Anyway fwiw, the Sparmax is ver quiet and does all I ask.

This is an FMC 50 foot double 8ft door boxcar, I picked up almost assembled from Mick who bought it used at Stafford a couple of years ago.

If you start searching for who had these cars, SP had quite a few of them and some appear in Golden West Service livery

I'm in Tokyo this week on a business trip so I have a Railgon Gondola to build, it's another Modern Era O freight car.
The instructions are similar to the other boxcars, but there isn't really much to instruct you about so they are ok.
The railgon paint scheme is black with yellow edges.

As you can imagine masking that up would be a bit of a night mare, the instructions tell you to fit the grab irons after painting !

But there is a similar car that they built for SOO lines and it's plain freight car red, so that's what I'm going with.

As usual I couldn't sleep much last night so I spent 3 hours making grab irons.

fortunately those on the real thing tend to be battered and bent too.

Okay, I give in, it's not quite right either, no ones supposed to notice !

And no Tim I run a grafitti free railway !

Richard
Don't worry, the authenticity swat team are not going to rappel from a helicopter through your windows and take you away.

Sometimes, too much information is counter productive......

I have the same view on grafitti, I was told it wasn't authentic to which I replied, "it's my toy train, I am the fat controller with the top hat so I decide what does and doesn't happen" ;)
