Morning all.



We start the day with an edited view of one of Norman s favourite images taken at Sheep Lane.



Highbridge 3F, 43474, pauses whilst worrying a few wagons in the yard to allow Driver Tommy Cooper and Fireman Eric Sykes to avail themselves of a cup of tea with Guard Jimmy Edwards and John Junkin, yard foreman.



You can almost hear the buzzing of the insects, the rustle of the grass and smell the warm oil and smoke.......not to mention the unmistakable waft of bacon and eggs drifting from the yard hut.

I agree, Sheepbloke takes some great photos. I do find Modelrail Mag photography to be a bit too in your face.

I really dislike mag photos now. They seem to want to use layered focus pictures which makes everything in focus, and lighten all the shadows so you can see what's there. And of course your eyes do not see the world that way. When you focus on an object, you still see what's all around but it's not in your face as per the way the mags think everyone one wants it. Case of using technology for the sake of it.

Anyway lovely layout and photos. I do like the back scene. The colours to me bring it alive.

I think the photo layering technique also makes straight lines a bit bendy. It could be that some of the layouts do have wobbly track and banana coach roofs but...

As a professional photographer working with museum objects, focus stacking certainly has it's place for small objects, especially when combined with automated focusing which makes production times come down considerably.

My personal dislikes are:

Super closeups, when the intended viewing distance is much greater
High dynamic range imaging
Over saturated colours
CGI steam

Phew! After the trials and tribulations of the Nailsea show at the week end, thoughts now turn to Bleat Wharf and bringing that up to a standard that I feel happy to present to others.



The basics are more or less complete and with three weeks or there abouts to go to it's first show, we should see further progress made. However, next week is looking tricky as the outlaws are over to stay.

Therefore time will be at a premium.



Bleat will not be the finished article at the RMweb show in Taunton but I hope it will look presentable and give a good account of itself.



On a positive, it rather looks like Bleat will be at the SDJRt show at Edington in January 2020, something I am very pleased about. With this in mind, Bleat will be perhaps more readily identified as being an S&D layout than Sheep Lane.

Having been an enthusiast of the S&D for some 40yrs, being given the chance to show my take on the system to other S&D enthusiasts is a biggy. ... and I want to get it right......
