It's coming along nicely Rob. The 260mm depth is quite a lot better than the 220mm I'm used to with the SMS RUB fitting layouts.
......although with lower back scenes it might well fit side ways.....thinks....
Chris

Morning, Chris.

Thanks. The very first scribbled plan was that this would have a lower backscene with lighting provided by clipped on lights, quite a departure from my more recent builds.

However, a fully boxed in approach makes for a better protected job. It will probably never happen, but I still reckon this could travel to a show on the back of the Triumph which would be a bit of a hoot. ( I've carried bigger and heavier items as luggage. Not including pillion passengers I hasten to add )

For reference, the back and sides are 30cm tall so stand 24cm above the 'board' level.

silly loads on bikes.... India is the place.

Our housekeeper used to ride with his wife (sidesaddle of course) and three kids. My wife rode home on a pushbike with an ironing board. I recall a chap riding lying down, feet on the bars, head resting against the top box, crossing the Mumbai bridge at a steady 40~ish, and a Honda 150 with two lads and a goat going to the last supper. Well, the goat's last supper anyway...

Morning all.

A small, non-update on the various projects if I may.

Seahorses- With the announcement of the small radius Bullhead points from PECO, this has been placed on hold until they appear. As they're still being developed, there's not really a timescale to add to this. Even the PECO rep couldn't confirm delivery dates so await we will. However, I suspect/hope it will be around a month or so. Buildings and stock are all 'in house' so that's that aspect sorted at least.

Blackwater Pier- Pretty much all is "in stock" to progress this. However, I want to make a slight amendment to the baseboard. However, whenever I've had time to get on with it, it's been rather Baltic in the garage........not encouraging.

Y Ddôl- The baseboard is done, as is three quarters of the surrounding box. A chance encounter in the attic saw me locate the final part of the jigsaw, a piece of MDF to form the roof and upper fascia panel, which was already cut to the required size-result !

Exhibition commitments for this year remain as a trip to StowRail with Sheep Dip. I do however have a trip to Scaleforum where I am booked to provide a demonstration of scenic and weathering techniques. I need to give some thought to presenting both aspects as I've never done this. I'll be supported by EWE which will remain as a static exhibit.

Setting it all down like this helps to see the wood for the trees as it were so I've decided to pick something from each to tinker with, in an attempt to make some progress, however small, with each project.

Exhibiting scenics.... You'll either have to demonstrate live using (lots of) materials during the day, and having lot's of examples to chuck in the bin.... Or produce a sample board showing the stages in doing grass etc

I have a number of small ply boards to decorate and I could possibly take a layout along and do the Scenics at the show, well, on the Saturday at least !
Weathering is easier. Just a few of the same and do one after each other. Weathering buildings is also possible. Simply do all the buildings for a particular project......

I'll get there.

Evening all,

Glad to be back and thanks to Adrian and anyone else who has assisted in restoring normal service. Your efforts are much appreciated.

And, to coincide with this, we have a new addition to the fleet. Joining the stock for the long term East Anglian, 1960s set diesel project is one of the new and wholly excellent Class 30, Brush Type 2 jobs from Accurascale.

I've been after one since they announced it, spurred on by fond memories of my Triang version I had over fifty years ago ( gulp !! ). Understandably, the A/S job is as much of it's time as the Triang example was of its.

Accurascale have absolutely nailed it in my opinion. It looks fab, runs beautifully and is very quiet. It's a stunner and as you may note, I'm very happy with it.

1000014172.jpg

For now, it will be confined to the occasional jaunt on Ewe but in the future, I have every intention of providing a more expansive layout where it can stretch it's wheels.

In due course, it will be fitted with the sound decoder but no rush for that.

Point of order sir. Your nice new big green jobbie is a 31. Only the original D5500–D5519, them wot had Mirrlees engines, were classed as 30s. Amazebobs hey?

(PS I had no idea there was such a thing as a Class 30 until earlier)

Edit: original source incorrect...

I'm no expert on such things but, according to BR Database, D5615 was a Class 30/2, well it was until Jaunary 1968 when I presume they replaced the Mirrless engine..Then it became a 31/1

Accurascale didn't announce a sound fitted version of this loco as they were working on the sound file for the decoder thing. The stumbling block was trying to source Mirrlees noise. They have resolved this now, some how.

Oh no, difference of database opinion. To be fair I don't give a Castlemaine XXXX which is correct. But further investigation seems to indicate my original source, whilst mentioning the pilot batch had the Mirrlees engines, failed to mention what the later ones got. Never mind.

I do like the fact that they've got a section headed "Fires"
