Well we have progress, In between cleaning the house looking after the child (when not tied to a stake in the garden
, that was a joke by the way), ironing and other tasks like building a new drain for the waste from the kitchen,we now have a complete coach. The ends have been lightly super glued on so as I can check how much I have to remove to keep the profiles the same.
.
You can see the difference in height of the cab to the Big Big donor this is about 1mm in real terms as the actual profile of the curve to the front buffers is slightly wrong. You can see as well the rear of the cabs profile is also too low tihs is why I affixed it to build it up from layers of filler.
The roof is pretty much spot on just a little re-profiling and the filling of the roof slider.
That bloody lens distortion again, here you can see the amount of filler that need to be added top the right hand side of the cab
And finally the tumble home you can see its a bit lower on the cab than on the donor coach.
A lot of work still to do to make it right but slowly does it and I will get to the promised land. I have been in touch with an old friend of mine who has come up with a cracking idea, using fibre glass to make new body shells up rather than doctoring Big Bigs. What an interesting idea! the cab has a lip filed on to it of about 2mm and the coach a recess to take the lip on the inside of the mating face, the resultant line where the two meet will be the front line of the drivers door and the rest will be scribed into the plastic coach, the windows frames will be made out of thin plasticard, the cab will be removed from the Coach then the coach given to my friend to cast. A very interesting idea. Window frames cast in and a thin body shell section ( you use a two pack filler primer on the inside then flat it down to get rid of the glass fibre pattern). Hummmmmm now that's an idea.
