I couldn't resist it, I had to do itphoto(12).JPG
They don't look like that now though as they have had another sanding no remove some more of the high spots on the sides and roof of the Motor Coach and the roof of the Std Driving Trailer. I will be starting the trailer coach next and I will be doing it the way I did the Driving Trailer. The front still looks a little rough perhaps when I remove it from the front of the rest of the coach I should attack it with wet and dry.

Hi Ian,

Looks very good. Are these 3-car ?. and are you doing just the one set.

The sanding down gets a bit boring and very repetative. I have been doing some Mk2 TSO's. Just when you think you have got it nice and level you catch it in a different light and as if by magic you see a bump or hollow that needs sorting:headbang:.

Keep up the great work mate.

I'm a little confused as to whether the trailer coach is the one in the middle of a set of three, or the other end of the set.

The full consist will be

Driving Trailer 2nd, Motor Brake 2nd (with the pan). Trailer Car 2nd, Driving Trailer Comp (1st and 2nd)

No mate this is going to be the full Monty a 4 car set, these coaches hopefully will be used as the masters for moulds and then the actual coaches will be cast in either resin or fibre glass. I agree with you about the shape its a beast to get right especially the tumble home at the bottom. I have found the best method, fix sandpaper to a flat surface, so its longer than the coach, hold the coach on its side till its flat, put an old under frame in it then run the coach back wards and forwards over the paper till you can see the high spots then add the filler to the low spots a bit at a time and repeat in no time the coach sides are flat. I then set to work on the tumble home using the same method and then the roof. I will take some pictures if you wish.

The Glass paper flat on the board

The victim, its a Russian in the middle and Tri-ang I used these as the outside profile is all I want the Tri-ang cut ups are being kept if this method is successful for Mk2 A's, B's, C's, D's, E's and F's (we are going to cast ends and make a glazing strip.

The scrap under frame (it's used to keep the coach in profile for sanding)

Togetherness AHHHHHHH
photo(15).JPG
After a couple of mins sanding to remove the high spots ignore the way the paint has come off around the 3rd window as this is covered in dust

The other end
photo(13).JPG
Looking down the coach the tumble home has not really been touched all except by the 3rd window a bit more sanding and the side will be smooth and the tumble home will be intact, trust me (famous last words)it does work.

Awesome...! This is really taking shape.

Just wondering.... Are you thinking about building OHLE on your garden layout? You have a nice long straight run there; headspan and gantry masts would be pretty impressive...?

Colin.

Gardening leave.
Railway term, meaning enforced time from work due to circumstances.

Note:-do not ask person on Gardening leave, as to why, as being told to mind your own business, go away or being ignored often offends.
I know what it means - it is a universal phrase - but was worried about the good Colonel's circumstances.

I had a good day today with very little interference, both me and the wife had alot of paper work to do but in between I got more done and started the 3rd coach (Trailer Car 2nd) In a change of direction I decided to use a coarser paper so I would not need to rough up the surface and the sides will take less time to get flat then I will add the filler then smooth.

Just to proove it works this is the side of the power car, you can quite clearly see that the side isn't flat and will require more filler putting in where the grey remains.

The next day after a quick 10 minutes in the shed
photo(14).JPG
It's going to take a bit more sanding to put the tumble home straight, it's not far off but I am going to mix more filler to do the roof before I do.You can see the high spots on the tumble home this is due to flexing of the body shell

I know it's difficult to tell but my well looks a lot deeper than the one in the picture input required as there are none left to measure and to be fair if there were I wouldn't want to get up there in the first place:eek:

Hi Ian,

Yes i would tend to agree, i think yours is too deep there seems to be more roof above the "gutter " line. Easily remedied , just add a piece of plastikard the thickness you need and blend the edges.

Thanks boys, MTH commented on it when he came and I scoured the net to try and find a good picture. I found one but it was fairly inconclusive, sometimes I need a hand with prospective with not being able to see one first hand picture evidence and a badly drawn outline drawing is all I really have to go on.
