Too good to ignore.

In support of your theory Fraser, there is a page in LNER Reflections ISBN 0 947971 03 3 (Nigel Harris) which has two photos one taken in 1924 depicting the 1924 Flying Scotsman Train hauled by 1471N Sir Fredrick Banbury.

In the second photo The Topical Press Agency had produced a composite photograph which included the R100 Airship. Not only was the airship superimposed onto the picture but they had also substituted a more modern tender in place of the GN Coal rail tender in the 1924 photo. The editor also notes that they didn't lower the cab and boiler fittings which had been done on 4471 to conform with the standard LNER loading gauge by the time the photo was produced.

That's what made me think of there Heather. There were troughs between Hest Bank and Carnforth, although I'm not too sure of that slight curve.

This is a well known image that was filmed at Offord D'Arcy between Huntingdon and St Neots on the ECML. The river is the Great Ouse; the banks are very overgrown now. The view is looking South South East from the west bank of the river. The spire is the church of St Peter's Offord D'Arcy, now redundant,. I once lived in the old rectory whose grounds adjoin the church yard.

For all the years I've travelled up and down the ECML I've never noticed the river here - especially when travelling at around 180kmh.

Interesting selection of SR electric units from immediate nationalisation as they have no BR crest and some have s-prefix set numbers.
And in order:

First: 3017 6-PUL on a Victoria - Eastbourne (via Quarry) service at East Croydon

Second: s4561 ex-3-SUB on a Victoria - Epsom Downs via Streatham and West Croydon - rebuilt from LBSC suburban steam stock later augmented into a 4-SUB with a Bulleid trailer at Selhurst.

Third: s4492 ex-3-SUB rebuilt from LSWR suburban steam stock later augmented into a 4-SUB with matching ex-LSWR trailer at East Croydon.

Fourth: 4238 ex-3-SUB on a London Bridge - Brighton semi-fast (via Quarry) service -rebuilt from LSWR suburban steam stock later augmented into a 4-SUB with matching LSWR trailer. Location has me stumped at the moment as milepost 7 is Anerley but the background doesn't fit.
