I think the JLTRT is closer, put another way, after 12 months the discrepancy wouldn't tick me off to get rid of it like I would with the Heljan one. Another subtle point is the cab roof overhang over the side windows looks a bit too much on the Heljan model, maybe a little too little on the JLTRT which could be overcome with thinner side window etches?

You'd think that the essentially slab fronted Western would be easy to replicate, but once you get into engine picking, its actually quite difficult to pull off all those subtle shapes, and yes they're both far better than I could ever manage so far dinkum to both companies for their efforts.

The resin frame is too prominent on the JTRTR but if you sand it back it gets much closer. the headcode benefits from some work as well. I just think starting from scratch and with the information available there is no excuse to get it wrong.

The Colonel and his entourage has just departed our humble abode and I see that Mick has beat me to it. I won't bother uploading mine as he has been able to get better shots, cheers Mick

Sorry, didn't mean to steal your 'thunder', post away old chap. I suppose on reflection it wasn't too bad a show.

In case anyone is wondering about the new sig, it is a quote from PMP of this and other parishes, who didn't recognise me until I was 2' away (I like to think, because I have lost 2 1/2 stone since I last saw him) and who justified his double-take with a magnificent recovery...

The JLTRT does have the 'flat bit', the Heljan looks more disappointing every time i see it.
You sure, Guv..? Looks to me like the NQJLTRT one hasn't got enough flat to the top of the windscreens; the HJ one has a tad too much..?
I'd go for a different test - set them both bombing around Phill's Withercombe main line at 90mph with 10 on.. and see if they look good then....:D ;)

TBH I'm more impressed with the HJ one than I thought I might be.... any shots of the Class 31??

It a little too curved, but it looks much better then the HJ. for me there are too many niggling little things with the HJ, look at the sand box covers and the valancing under the cab. Imho it idoesnt look as good as the Dapol 4mm wessie. Put it this way it hasnt made my wallet twitch :))

Went Warley yesterday and had an enjoyable day......but same old problem stood looking at some layouts for five minutes and nothing moved. Some one made a very apt remark of one layout as he walked away "must be a static display". Some really excellent layouts, there was a Scottish 7mm modern image (well almost) not a period that I have any real interest in but seeing this I could be tempted! really nice stock including dmu's and a voyager. I could have watched it all day, did anyone take any photos?

You will find out as soon as possible:);)

A fair comparison to me would be between a RTR Heljan at around £450 & a RTR JLTRT at around £2000+........niggles aside, I will be going with Heljan :)
