so plaster boarded my brothers new railway room in the garden annex, a 6m by 3m, out building, or is it the new Red room, Mr. Grey,
.

And very impressive it is too . . . . . .

After an afternoon holding 8x4 sheets of plasterboard above my head, while Paul 'screwed' I felt as if I'd spent the day in Mr Grey's "Red Room"

Didn't miss Warley one jot - £40 in fuel, £10 parking, £20 to get in, probably another £20 on food over the day - there's almost a new loco.

I'm finding this thred intresting. Speeking as an operator at this years show, I can understand people not liking things moving for some time (the wife and me are of the same thinking), that's why on Milton Quays we have an operator out frount shunting the Quay side and interacting with the public.
No layout is perfict, we had problems with trains sticking:oops: , derailments:rant: , going onto the turntable vice mainline:headbang: , even a short cirket:mad: . We tryed our best:cool: .
I take some comfort that the layouts pointed out (so far:eek: ) as having problems, we are not listed. (i exspect that will now change)
As for the show itself, i thort is was well setout with many intresting layouts and displays, (thinking it was ironic that 'Lyd' was bigger than Bill & Ben the standard gauge Loco's)

If anybody who went, want to pass comment on Milton Quays please do so on here or via a PM and i'll pass them onto the layout manager. We can only inprove things if we know where we went wrong.

If you have a weak grip of wallet or are easily tempted, I wouldn't recommend clicking on this link :) It would appear if you put down a refundable deposit of £100, you will end up paying just a further £99.99 for a RTR 7mm Beattie Well Tank. That strikes me as a good and proper bargain and you can get your cash back if you don't like it or change your mind. Can't remember how that compares to the Dapol 08 offer earlier in the year, but it seems pretty good to me.

Like I said, the weak willed should stay away

2 of the Heysiders made a bee-line for the Kernow stand at Warley and ordered one.

I wonder whether we are about to see a shift from the archetypal GW BLT to models of Bodmin:)

The Dapol 08 can be got for about £160 IIRC.

I dont think the archetypal GWR BLT exists anymore. These days it is a BR Blue shunty plank. Seriously, i think that modelling GWR in the 30's, a la Railway modeller circa 1970, then you are doing something less ordinary. If I see another blue 08 and mineral wagons type layout, i'll scream.

I've just seen news of new O gauge modern image wagons from Dapol? Did anyone here see or hear anything?

Hi Phil, they're releasing the following in 7mm:
  1. HAA/HBA(the later ones fitted with canopies) £70
  2. HEA £65
  3. VEA £50

All in Railfreight, Brown, and the HEA will also be available in EWS. Not sure when they're due but I should think sometime next year.

Cheers

I feel a bit like that about Sectorization/Privatization TMD's :D

Hehe, quite agree Cynric. I reckon that's partly a function of anni domini of course - '30s GWR was all the vogue in the late '60s and '70s when my dad started out and it can't be a coincidence that 30-40 years later the subject matter has changed too. A multi-scale phenomenon: doubtless, because it's easy to do and find space for. 'Ironing Board' layouts David Geen calls them. I can't quibble, of course, it's about all I have space for myself and I may do sometime. The 08 isn't blue though, at least, not yet...

I did go in the end but I went in the van to save on fuel, even if it did make it feel more like work. I parked in the station car park, thus saving a fiver and a long walk, or having to sit on a bus with other people (perish the thought!).

Bought an accessory decoder to change the points (which doesn't work!) and another locomotive kit - a Hudswell Clarke outside cylindered 0-6-0ST - from Agenoria. I've never built anything with more than 4 wheels before so that's something new to learn... I just hope I don't cock it up.

The highlight of the show was the pair of former Port of Par Bagnalls in 12inches to the foot scale. I knew L&B replica thing was going to be there but the Bagnalls were a pleasant surprise.

Now that is a dashed good idea! I fully concur with the mass transit system, preferring to walk in the rain for 20mins than sit in a sweaty bus LOL.

I can see why they were tempted Richard, its a lovely prototype and a favourable price - fingers crossed as KMRC keep going up scales I can get one in 1/32 :D I suspect a large amount of china clay action is on its way too :)

Ta for the price update - good job I don't model in 7mm then - that and a few wagons would have made a nice little layout.....

Right time for a heads up. On the Skytrex stand I noticed that he was selling wagons for 30 quid a pop and at Telford I had 4 Box vans, I noticed this time at Warley the same offer was on so I thought I would chance my luck and offered him 160 for 6 to which he agreed . I then asked him if he would accept 200 quid for 8, again he agreed so I walked away with 8 ready built wagons almost identical ;) to the Parkside Dundas vehicles ideal for garden layouts for 25 quid each, OK so they are not as pretty as the PD but for a garden Layout who cares. I also found out that he is not producing any further wagons of rolling stock (excluding Loco's) as he stated that he has stirred enough interest in the 7mm modeling scene:)). So fill your boots as there ain't going to be many left soon

Thought we weren't doing the blue thing now;)
Blue or blue? :)
As others have pointed out there are other popular cliches, but as I said I dont think GWR BLT or the minor elements of the 'big four' could be classed as such.
Heaven help us from china clay branches.....
Just an observation, in that if you are doing the currently popular 70/80s era then it really does need to be different to stand out at an exhibition, obviously at home it really doesnt matter.

There are warnings posted "over there" about such practice; sometimes the ticket machines are switched off apparently, and when you go to buy a £5 car park ticket from the manned booth they ask to see your train ticket first:shit: £25 fine they say... it must be a well known trick?
