Hi I've just been reading your article in MRJ it's really good . I've just spent a couple of weeks scribing and drilling the inside of some POW wagons only to discover that some one makes etched insides . I've ordered some
Nice wagons

Hi Mick,
Just had a read through your workbench thread, very impressive.
I see you work for the police at J41, do you know Neil Hollis?

Unfortunately not, I'll send a quick email to Laurie,

Hi Mick,
You have written... "email to Laurie"... I often write "telecon / email Laurie"... and we are not talking about the same person! Rather than mis-lead anyone I have been referring to Laurie Lynch (of MM1 aka JLTRT) in my workbench thread... and I think that you have been referring to Laurie Griffin.

regards, Graham

About five weeks down the line, with limited modelling time I thought it best to pop a quick update on;

I've got about as far as I can with the GE Brake Van as at ths minute i'm waiting for the brake blocks and some replacement T stanchion brackets. I'm using exactoscale W irons and when I offered them up there was litterally a 3mm gap each side, so the only thing for it was to move the solebars. I removed all I had done and moved the solebars inboard, which seems to have sorted the problem? Because of this the T stanchions I had done had to be removed and binned:headbang: . So to date one side is almost finished apart from the hand rails and the W irons are fitted. The jury is still out on the end lamp irons, I may change those and there are still some foot board brackets to fit. Some of the foot board brackets also had to be made up from Slaters LNER ones as the kit didn't provide anything near the centre long brackets. I'm hoping once some filing and filling is done and the paint is on the top of the T stanchions will look better :headbang: When I get the new castings the end is in sight ( for the soldered parts that is )

I do like thismodel and your posts have been an eye-opener... very useful when starting with 7mm etched kits :thumbs: . In fact, I like this model so much you can make one for me! Oopps :oops: , got carried away there :confused: , the GER never got anywhere near Middle Buckinghamshire so you are safe.

:)):)) Glad you like it Graham. I am really enjoying the build, it has it's challenges but the prototype is no nice and the picture i'm using is so full of character that everytime I do a bit I can't wait to finish the build and start painting. Fingers crossed the castings I need appear at Brightwell,

Ok so about three years ago I started planning to build this loco but so many things have got in the way and with it being hand built I've had to source drawings and prototype pictures etc. To be honest I completely under estimated the time the research would take. That and along with other projects which took over only after christmas did I look at it again. So I thought it was about time I got my fingure out and got on with it and here's progress so far on my J73;

Cruel close up picutres but what you see is the main tank and cabs and footplate assembley. This is all cut out from 15thou NS with a pirecing saw and filled up etc. I've concentrated on finishing the bunker back details and all the castings are Laurie Griffin's. The spectecale glasses and cab cut out beading are from Eastsidepilot and are very nice indeed. Inside represents the NE profile and once painted the spectecale glass will be fitted and the front of the frame over that. The foolplate has not been cut out yet fully, I'm waiting until I get the frames together to take the plunge with that. The tanks and cab are also just bolted to the footplate and located with the angle to help painting later. Hopefully the frames will be together soon and I can post more frequent progress?

A very nice job, our time at the NRM and researching pictures etc, as obviosly paid off. It will look the part shunting the stacking grounds on your proposed layout. I must make a start on my own 7mm version, I have several parts cut out. Mick.

Like the two bashed about examples illustrated here. Both views at Hull Dairycoates, note one of the short lived Lms 3F tank allocations to Hull. Mick.

Great photos Mick. Mine will be the one at the bottom 68383. Although I wasn't brave enough to model the damaged bunker top and footplate near the buffer. I will though try and model the coal around the rear lamp irons, overspill from Dairycoates cracker !
